Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Does anyone know where some online travelogues are from the old-schoolers? Everyone always makes the point that people used to do tours in Chuck Taylors and blue jeans, but I have yet to see any photos or read a travelogue of one of these intrepid souls. Everyone and their mother's got a travelogue it seems, and, no offense, but they all read about the same, with a few exceptions. ;) Can anyone help? :)

kris,
maybe there aren't any? Because they all occured before Al Gore invented the internet? :D Here is a Tandem Tour (http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/journal/?o=as&doc_id=743&v=1lv) That took place back in 1979 what I thought was really neat was they did a follow up tour 25 years later. Made for some excellent reading. I was touring back then too, Motobecane Nomade with an aluminum Pletscher rack, and friction shifting Suntour Barcons  Panniers were homemade from a Frostline Kit...still have what is left of the bike, don't remember if I wore chucks or not...

kris, maybe there aren't any? Because they all occured before Al Gore invented the internet? o my friend there´re, o yeah. i met a danish guy while in iceland. i was well equipped with SPDs, gloves, cycling shoes and all that pro gear while he was just in jeans and pullover or whatever photo stop stuff turists wear and, boy, he was so much faster than me, gone in 5 minutes. and he was riding with such upright position that i found it impossible to advance at all. how ironic!
