Today at my LBS I bought a safety bike light you might want to know about...
By Planet Bike...It is an adjustable ankle reflecterized band that has a light inserted within the band and you can turn on the light and have it in constant or flashing mode...
Called a BRT strap...Claims to be seen from 2000 ft...Much better than a UFO light...I was so enthused , I bought two...Expands enough...Probably could strap it about your neck or ankle if so inclined..Package advertises you can put it about your dog...
Took it on a dusk ride...I think they are really effective...My only concern...Usually my night riding bike is my touring bike with panniers almost always attached...That probably hides this light from the rear? Now I will concentrate my UFO lights on like the handlebars , so traffic will see be better from my side profile...
ANyone here seen or bought this BRT strap...Check it out...Think this one of the best night safety light available , other than a good handlebar light.

Commute...The bike planet light says it will run for 200 hours..I wonder if the batteries are replacable...Doubt it....Performance's looks like a dead ringer to Bike Planets...Maybe a new product design , just released?

It's probably a the same thing, onl ycheaper than the Planet Bike one.
The batteries almost surely are replaceable. But it probably uses watch batteries, which can be expensive. I didn't get one because I already have a reflective jacket, a reflective vest, a reflective ankle strap, reflective piping on many of my cycling clothes, an HID and blinkies. I had to draw the line somewhere.

Commute...Maybe we are all under the influence of Vegas style lighting , but flashing gizmos , we think might get us recognition while on the road. . I have almost as many gizmos as you..Not quite.

The batteries almost surely are replaceable. But it probably uses watch batteries, which can be expensive.
Watch batteries are pretty cheap if you buy them in quantity. Lithium batteries have a very long shelf life, so buying 5 years worth at once may be worth it, particularly if they are common, such as CR2032's which are used in many things; I have a half dozen things at home that take that battery.
As an example, 2032's are usually $4 or $5 at a local store. at batteryspace.com (they are a good source, they also have a 12V li-ion rechargable bottle-cage battery) they are $2.25 for FIVE, $16.95 for FIFTY. Even with shipping, buying 5 there is cheaper than buying 2 at the store.

I have a cycling "belt" made from that stuff. The Belt is designed like the old time police belts, with the loop running from the back, over the shoulder, and across the chest to the waist belt. It uses a nine volt battery in a pouch that also has room for keys, and coffee money.
The thing is so extremely noticeable that it draws waay too much attention. Teen-agers can not resist slowing down, rolling down the window, and expressing their "thoughts" on the belt and the sort of person who would wear it.
So, now I only use it for long rides at night, such as when I am riding across the city at 2 a.m. Don't need that much attention just to run over to McDon...I mean to the "health food" store.

Where have you been riding in twone, I haven't seen any yet here. Then again maybe not doing much night/dusk riding. Will have to check Budget tomarrow.

I recently found one of these at my local EMS for about $7. It lights up really well, and is large enough to either go around my ankle or my upper arm, which, come to think of it, I may do both!

I had to search, but somebody had linked to a safety vest with a light like that. I found it, and it also has a 200 hour run time. It uses a CR2032 battery.
