Rode 75 miles yesterday... the big 100 is 2 weeks away. I surrender my bike Monday (for the drive out to Tahoe with the fundraising people). So I'll have to borrow a bike in the interim.
Wow...never thought I'd ride so far ... hilly too yesterday. Each time I am to ride a bit further I go thru times when I think, "I can't do this"...or I see ANOTHER hill, and think "oh crap"... But when I finish the ride, I think 'I did it"..wooo wooo! and whew! It's sort of addicting...that rush, that high.
Now if only I can keep in for the century... and gain some speed... I'm pokey.

Don't worry about being pokey. A century is not a race, it is an event. Take your time, pace yourself - especially go slow at first. Don't try to keep up with those more experienced than you. All you want to do is finish, not set a record.
And, congratulations on the 75 miles. You have just completed a metric century and a bit more. So, you are already a "century guy." :D
Congrats on working towards a century. They are a blast. Don't worry about being pokey, that's where the fun is, you see a lot more. I remember my first I nearly died when I got off the bike and my legs were still frogging, they hadn't done that since my last date on the side of a rock face.
I also made the mistake of not cooling down and walking out some of that ride, as well as continued hydration. I cramped up that night, like I'd never cramped before, it was really bad. I had to get up and walk and stretch, and that's really hard when you can't stretch you legs in the first place. It was a valuable lesson.

Funny how those big hills can help you get through a ride.I tell myself "The rest of the ride can't be too bad if I can just get over this hill".In the Hilly Hundred I told myself this ALOT.The first day there was one around a mile from the start.I said the above to myself but the hills got bigger:D What a rush when you finish!
