I tried to ride with naked bars (no tape) and just about killed myself while riding in wet weather.
I thought it might be a good idea to try using Dr. Zoggs sex wax on the bars when riding in the wet.
I still have some laying around from my surfing days but I wanted to know if anyone here has tried it before I start searching through boxes.

Enjoy

Man that junk is sticky. That's the whole point.

I suspect one or two things will happen:

1. You end up with a wax film on your hands.
2. You end up with a wax film on your hands and your bars are still too slippery to hold.
3. You end up with a wax film on your hands and your bars end up gross and dirty. They may also be too slippery to hold.

Why do you hate tape?

Get some cloth tape/bar tape and just apply a few bands to give you some grip or get some decent gloves.

Naked bars, bare hands and rain don't mix too well.

I don't hate tape but usually during a build I ride the bike around for a while to "dial it in".
I don't want to tape the bars until everything is set.
I remembered how well sex wax worked on my stick so I thought I might try it on the bars during wet weather and clean it off on dry days.
Enjoy

This reminds me of the old jokes about Sex Wax and the ads they used to run in various mags.

sticky bumps are where it's at. living in gainesville is killing me since i don't live on the beach like i did in st pete. now that i can't skimboard that just means i have more time for biking.

I use sex wax on my kayak paddle and its great. But in that case the cold water keeps it from getting gooey and I'm not putting as much pressure on it with my hands so not as much rubs off.

I say give it a try. maybe all the kids will be doing it in three months.
if you're really massochistic you can rub some sand into it to get better grip. Although you'll probably loose a few layers of palm skin.

I thought the point to running naked bars was that those who do so wear gloves all the time?

I've never seen that for sale around here, will have to check it out.

The morning after my 30th bday bash I woke up to find someone had taken a huge bite out of one of my bars of Sticky Bumps. That poor bar had dental imprints all over it. Dunno if it tasted as good as it smelled.

Gloves. Then when you crash your hands are somewhat protected.

These are X-treme!

I have yellow handle bar tape on oneside of the handlebars, while the otherside is naked. I don't notice any diference in feel (I'm wearing winter gloves while riding) but the chrome looks pretty cool when it cathes the light. may be the closest I get to the disco ready Binanchi Pista.

I'm always surprised by you all riding with no bar plugs--the idea of apple coring my leg in an accident has me running old expander plugs, even on bare handlebars

This was about 50% of the reason I put some Velox plugs I had laying around in the ends of my bullhorns. I decided that if I took a cylinder out of a pedestrian it probably wouldn't be a good situation for either of us. The other 50% is because I didn't want my handlebars filling with rain ;)

I run red grips on the ends of my bull horns, switched from black because the peds can see them better, and I always thought they should see the goring about to happen.
