Sunday morning I was commuting home. I rode through unexpected rain. My question. As I took off, I placed some White Lightning on my chain. Knowing these type lubes are less permament in the rain. My commute is 26 miles.
My question- how long will this type lube last in the rain. Was my drive train- dry before I got home. I like the silicon based lubes, similiar to White Lightning. What do you do to prepare for riding in the rain..?

I do alot of ridding in the rain. at least I used to when it did rain. I found that when it comes to chains and derailers the best thing to do is clean and lube them after every ride in the rain. If not they start to build up rust causing them to wear out faster. It does become a pain in the butt if it rains all the time. If you do not have the time to clean them each time at least give the chain a good coat of lube but first dry the chain.

If I suspect that I will be riding in the rain the next day (I commute as well), I lube my chain the day before. I know that White Lightning, in particular, works much better if you let it dry for a bit. In fact, I think that the performance of White Lightning improves in the rain .. if you have a good coat on.

Not long!
Lubing and cleaning after every ride in the rain is a smart thing to do, especially if it's a long one.

quick clean and lube after each ride and good clean and lube each week or so
