Mountain Biking - Magazines

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

What is the best mountain bike magazine? I have picked up Mountain Bike and it seems ok, if you spent 2000 bucks on your bike. Is there one out there geared more for weekend warriors and those of us on a budget? I am not a racer or a professional biker. I am a normal guy with a family and a job (or two) who likes to get outside and enjoy myself without taking it too seriously.

You'll probably get a lot of opinions here. I like Mountain Bike Action, Bike, and Dirt Rag in about that order.

I like Mountain Bike Action and Dirt Rag, the European magazines are fun for the great pictures and *uh* exciting ads. Mountain Bike Action has a great web site and they profile a wide range of bikes (cheap to unobtainable).

Mountain bike is full of cocky ******* writers who only care about 2,000 bikes and top of the line gear. they dont really offer much advise either. im getting it for free though so im not gonna complain too much. go for mountain bike action, its pretty good.
i like mountain bike action for the reviews it gives. i have got a couple issues of bike mag. and it pretty good
Never miss a Dirt Rag issue.MBA and Bike are also good.

I subscribe to Dirt Rag #1 Choice, and Bike.
I also occassionally buy Mountain Bike Action. I used to have a subscription, but let it run out!
I rarely purchase Mountain Bike due to disgust after 4 years of subscribing. I got sick of reading about Zap's political view and about everything else but cycling. Instead of writing in and complaining like everyone else that didn't seem to make a difference, I just didn't resubscribe.
Bike is starting to adopt the political jabs that Mountain Bike is guilty of and it's starting to irritate me, but I've got another 3 years of my subscription.
I'll probably get another subscription to MBA again, I really enjoy reading Richard Cunningham's writings.

What Mountain Bike
Mountain Bike Rider (MBR)
Cycling Plus
(all UK Magazines)
Not keen on 'Dirt' and dislike Mountain Biking UK
American magazine wise, the local stops don't stock them, but I occasionally pick one up in London if I pass through.

MBR is the best of a bad bunch over here. MBUK has gone downhill fast the last few years. There is hardly ever any XC in it and there's noyl so many times you can read the same article about Steve Peat.
