Thought that might get your attention. I have wanted a Waterford built Schwinn Paramount for a long time. I think I finally found a 54cm frame from the late 80s that might get me there. The guy is selling the frame for $200 and it is not cherry, but, it has no rust.

I really don't pay much attention to the roady stuff out there so bear with me. I was wondering how difficult it would be to build up a late 80s Paramount with Campagnolo Record level gruppo from that time frame? Are parts still easily obtained for a bike of that age?

I would prefer to keep the frame stock. I assume I would have to expand the chainstay width to 130mm to use newer components, yes?

Is anyone doing Paramount restorations, ie, original paint, decals, detailing, etc?

Thanks

I don't know anything about restoration, but you might try this site: http://www.oldroads.com

HI Martin!
I ride an '89 Waterford/Paramount, and it rocks! Good luck on your project!
Check out eBay and the newsgroup rec.bicycles.marketplace, you will find the parts you need. And, of course, check out your local bike shop for new, old stock parts!
My chainstays are not 130mm wide, but easily accomodate the Shimano Ultegra 8 speed cassette and hub.
You might also check out the restoration forums at www.schwinn.com

Late 80's would be C-record or Super Record try http://www.campyonly.com/ they have a pretty good "want ads" section. I found some mtn brakes a while back, new and at a much better price than anywhere else I'd looked.

Ride Well

You can rebuild a Paramount, but it will cost you. Collector's stuff - and especially Campagnolo collectors parts are expensive.

It depends on what you are looking for, doesn't it?
If you want all NOS/NIB expect to pay premium prices
i.e Super Record Rear derailleur $150 to $200 (based
on year also)
If you want period correct used there is alot out
there but you need to look carefully!
recently saw on e-bay for $400 patent 84 N. Record
gruppo, with Wheels in good shape.
Alot of shops have good stuff available, and there
is always the yard sale bike that you can canibalize
(although if its Campy equipped it may be worth
keeping? like the $25 Colnago super!)
Check out Classic Rendezvous (http://www.classicrendezvous.com/main.htm) they have good classified,
as well as good links for pre 1985 parts.
You could always go for the Campy 50th anniversary
gruppo on e-bay, or buy one from Bulltek!

Forgot one other great
resource for hard to find parts is
Renaissance Cycles (http://www.renaissance-cycles.com/) in Eindhoven (sp?) they usually have
alot of small parts, hard to find parts and are
relatively cheap. Baron is great at shipping, is always
prompt and I've never had a hassle.
He is the only supplier for Modolo brakes
and parts that I know of.

I do know of a guy in New York that deals with retro parts and his name is Ted Prahl.

The last email I have for him is treadmil@slic.com. His shop is in the adirondacks somewhere. It is a combination bike shop and wheel alignment shop. Gotta be flexible when you live in the boonies. Send him an email with what you are interested in along with a fax number. He used to have a website, but told me he gave it up. I think he prefers to just fax out his latest list of goodies. He actually mailed his list to me in about a week or so.

I personally haven't bought anything from him, but I do have his latest list somewhere and his prices look good. Lots of Italian stuff and single speed & fixed gear too.

Good luck on your project.

Thanks for the links. I found Waterford's website and they do Paramount frame restorations to original factory specs. Good to know and it is still a lot less than I had anticipated.
