Touring - Kickstand for loaded tourer and bailout gearing?

I have a Cannondale T2000 and am planing a trip from Ca-Co this summer. Two questions what type of kickstand do people use? The T2000 comes with 26-36-48 chainrings and 11-34 cog is it possible to change out the lower chainring to something smaller without changing the other cogs?

I have that same bike. I use a basic aluminum kickstand, Greenfield I think is the brand, you just cut the length to fit your bike. The problem is with a top-heavy bike, especially with a handlebar bag, the handlebars want to twist around and topple the bike over and smash your rear view mirror (OK it smashed my rear view mirror). The trick is a front tire holder thingie, simply attach half a bungie cord to one of your waterbottle cages and widen the hook to fit your bike rim. There is a picture here of mine.

As far as the gearing goes, I changed all three rings as a set to (22,32,42) and they shift very well. I had to take a couple of links out of my chain for the smaller rings so I wonder if you just replace the granny if you may have a problem with chain length over that gear range. Hopefully someone else will know the answer to that.

Perhaps off-topic, but I have a basic aluminum kickstand that is cut kind of "long" to keep the bike up fully loaded (BB mounted). What I really want is a flickstand... keeps the bike from moving backwards/forwards while loaded.

I brought home one of those biped kickstands to mount on my 520. Don't bother with it if you've got a chainstay routed rear derailleur. If it routes on the top tube and the seat stay, you're okay.

You can change the 26 to a 24 or 22, but watch out for chain slack.
