Winter Cycling - Does anyone else use a Ski Helmet?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Am I the only crazy one out their using one? I find it so much warmer then a bike helmet. It offers more protection and is very goggle friendly. With a strap on the back of the helmet that holds the goggle strap on.

Does anyone else use one or something different?

Sometimes, when it is snowing because of goggle compatability and to keep the snow out, warmth. I prefer my pnuemo with sunglasses (clear or yellow lens) unless it's moderate to heavy snow.

Thats about the same thing I do. I prefer no glasses or goggles. If it's snowing or brutal cold. The goggles are on.

If I had one, I'd probably use it, but I'm not gonna drop that kind of dough on a seasonal helmet. If I wanted to spend the price for a ski helmet, I'd probably go with a real nice bike lid and use a skate helmet when it's cold. Instead I just open the sizer all the way and slip a normal ski beanie on under there.

Nope! I use an older cycling helmet, usually with a helmet cover. The I wear a headband for extra ear protection, and a balaclava ... and if it is really cold, I'll add a neck gaiter. That works for me.

I probably wouldn't use one if I didn't ski. (SEE SIG) So I find it to a be a good investment.

Thanks for the responses. bostontrevor and everyone else.

i don't use one myself, but i have seen others around here who do. at least i think they're ski helmets. i did kind of think it was odd, but that's because it's southern california.

I have a Protec snowboard helmet I bought a few years ago for when it's really chilly - ear flaps are GREAT!

I use a Protec skate helmet with a hat when it's warmer out.
