BMX - Hoffman Bike question.

This is the first time coming to this forum. And I would like to say hi to everyone. Ok, so heres my question:

I just bought a Hoffman D130 (Dirty One Thirty) and its really nice. When I bought it off this lady I was hopping that it wasnt a Walmart bike. Anyway, I'm about 20 years of age and I'm thinking about getting into dirt-jumping. Kinda scared though.

Ok, I want to get the new Odessey Camo Dirt Fork on Dan'sComp, but I dont know if it will fit the bike. Is there any kind of standard that bikes use when in production? I dont want to spend upwards of a $100 on it, and it jiggle around or not fit. Can anyone here tell me if it will?

Yes it should. However you may have to cut the steer tube to the size of your existing fork.

you mean cut it horizontal? Because I'm not gonna spend more money on something that has to be cut and welded.

if its longer than you want it, you can put 1 1/8" spacers above your neck

Before you buy thefork you should make sure that the dropouts on the fork match with your front axel size. If you buy the fork from dans it will have most likely have an option for what dropout size you need. I would suggest not trying to install the fork on you own if your just getting introduced to BMX now because if you do try and put it on you have to mess around with headset crap and taking off your stem ect. I would suggest to bringing the new fork and the whole bike straight to a bike shop and letting them do the dirty work.

1. Yes, it will fit your bike
2. You do not need to cut or do anything to the fork, almost all head tubes are within a half inch or so of each other in length in the bmx world.
3. If you find the fork to be a little long, you can use spacers.
4. Your fork has a 1 1/8" steer tube - memorize that!
5. It looks like your front wheel uses a 3/8" axle... I would STILL get forks with 14mm axle slots so if you replace your front wheel with a 14mm hub, your fork will work fine with it. You can pick up 3/8" to 14mm adapters for a couple bucks from wherever you purchase the fork from.

People still use 14mm axles on the front?

Beerman: Flatlanders still break front 3/8" axles regularly... I would think people doing a lot of toothpicks and who enjoy the sound of 'CHA-*****' as the peg hits a rail would definitely use 14mm.

To much focus on weight, now their bikes are falling apart. ;)

I haven't seen too many people snapping 3/8" axles (even on the Profile Minis with the threaded bolts) anymore, but Ill take your word for it.

Yeah, and I don't ride to much street, but know of some flatlanders that regularly snap their Kink & Standard front axles. For some it's an issue, for others it isn't, but I'd rather have the 14mm fork dropouts and use $2.00 adapters instead of having to cut out/replace my forks later on. Know what I mean?

i would never cut my dropouts to 14mm. this kid i know did that , and his dropouts cracked while doing a grind

That is a lighter set of rims, but they should work fine for you as long as your not going to jump off of any houses or anything like that. Those hubs are unsealed too, but again, they should work fine as long as you take good care of them. Good luck with it.

Those are about the cheapest set of rims on Dans Comp... Remember that you definitely get what you pay for in this sport. ESPECIALLY in wheels. That's a quick way to be out 70 bucks and be very unhappy if you come down wrong just once or after a few weeks of riding in the dirt and not having a clue how to regrease your hubs.

I am a fan of chrome plated rims (braking) but, if I were a dirt rider I would NEVER ride unsealed hubs.

A lot of the dirt lots around my area have been gated up and everything has been bulldozed. I'm thinking I should just stick to street, but concret scares the living **** out of me. If anyone from Phoenix can hook it up with some local spots please come forward, because its getting kind of lonely.

Thanks for pointing that out, the wheels not beening sealed. I had no idea. I dont mind spending a little more to get something thats gonna last for awhile, I was looking at these but since the other ones are a bad idea, then it looks like this is going to be Plan-B.

That is a much better wheelset than you had before. Those rims are actually double-walled, and the hubs are sealed 48-hole for strength and dependablility in dirty conditions. Those will do a heck of alot better for you than the other wheelset would of. I'd still wait for BMXTRIX's reply though since he knows more about that stuff than I do.

What part of phoenix do you live in? Like, near the Ikea store, or... ?

I don't really know the city well, but my sister lives there. She lives like 10 miles from that store (It's in Tempe I guess). There's some mountains nearby you can ride up, and maybe you can get in a race with some of the road riders that seem to be everywhere, heh.

HAHA, Ikea is like 10miles away from me. Thats hella far. The only way I'd be able to meet people is if they lived anywhere near MetroMall, or something close in that region. Ikea is just way too far.

I'm going to be up there next weekend, maybe I'll see you riding around or something ;)
I wont be able to bring my bike, unless I take it apart to fit it in the trunk, and I don't think I'll bother.
