Today I took my shiftie-coastie road bike out for for a spin the first time since October. It was a strange experience.
I kept finding myself pushing too hard of a gear, or spinning out because I didn't want to shift. I threw off my balance everytime I started to coast. I kept thinking that I had to soft pedal instead of coast, and was constantly expecting the pedals to keep pushing my feet around. it made for a pretty jerky ride. The aluminum wasn't too comfy either.
On top of that I almost crashed into the back of a car because I forgot that I needed to use the brakes to stop. :D
So now instead of selling my extra set of track wheels, I'm thinking that maybe I should sell the road bike and get myself a nice steel track frame instead. maybe a custom Marinoni (http://www.marinoni.qc.ca/images/2005/velos/grand/05_pista.jpg)?
ack.
what do you guys think? actually i already know what you guys are going to say.

I haven't wandered down to the LBS to ask yet, but from what I hear it's around $650 Canadian. Custom geometry. Columbus Zona. the fork's aluminum though. ick.

custom's the only way they make them.
it sounds like an amazing deal to me.

650 CAD, what's that, around $500?
But for full custom, zona steel, that does sound like a great deal. Maybe if you get it without the fork you can get it a little cheaper, and find a suitable steel fork, such as the $57 bikeworksnyc straight blade fork. It has the same look as the straight blade alu one on there...

hmmm, the first listing is a track bike, in my size, in my city, in an appropriate price range.

this is starting to look bad.

Marinoni's are sweet. I have a late 80's SLX road frame decked out with brand new ultegra 9 speed (yep I go both ways). This is the road bike I've always wanted, retro Italian steel (well kinda) with a new comp set. Sorry to bring up a geared bike but I just built it up and am still very stoked. Go for the Marinoni track frame, that thing is sweet.
