I am competing in my first adventure race in a couple of weeks. It includes trail riding, trail running, canoeing, a bike & tie, and a mystery event. I can't find anyone who knows what a bike & tie is. Can anyone help me out? Also, any help on things to do to prepare would be greatly appreciated.

bike & tie: 2 people one bike. Alternate switching at various check points. Sometimes you know the distance, sometimes you don't.

Comes from ride and tie, which is a race involving teams of two people and one horse. One person starts out riding the horse, gets to a certain point, ties up the horse and starts running. Meanwhile the other person starts out running, gets to the tied-up horse and rides to the next tie-up point. They switch off until the end of the race. The tie-up points are pre-determined.

I assume a bike and tie replaces the horse with a bike. You might want to confirm that it is not biking and horseback riding, as such an event is no place to learn to ride a horse.

Yup...they also do this on the canoe parts as well if you are in a three person team. We had one canoe for two people in a 3-person race team so one person got dragged.

Make sure to pace yourself and trade off as soon as you feel the need. Pack you bike with lots of water as it is the mule.

Good luck and have fun. I have done about 4 Sprint Length Adventure races and there is always something new each race.
