Skillman - The Sourlands is my backyard. If you want to ride Hunterdon, check out bikewjw.com. Hunterdon is one of the best places to ride in the country.

Are you sure that link is correct? I'm not getting anything.

Back from whence I came in Union County. Almost every one of my rides involves climbing over the hills of Watchung to get onto the roads of Somerset & Hunterdon counties (cycling nirvana), which is where I called home for 13 years.

I am from Voorhees-South Jersey. I have a TREK Y-33, Manitou minute one, PUSHED FOX FLOAT RC.
I ride mainly single track, x-cross country. I am a Clysdale 47 yr old. I ride 2-3 times a week. I ride mostly Estell Manor, Brandywine dela, Clayton Park(near Great Adventure), Jim Thorpe, Gloucester County College, Batona Trail and the Wissahickon. I ride only for recreation and excercise. I have had many operations and am limited in my riding.(Hip replacement, core decompression, ruptured achilles tendon, crushed ankle etc etc.....) I ride alot with my beautiful wife and at night with my friends. I have several directions to many local (dela, pa-Philly area, and NJ)trails I had ridden, if you email me I will send them to you. There is a large club that has many rides locally, JAR-Jersey Action Riders. They ride Camden Cty College, Batona, Gloucester Cty College etc weekly.
My favorite place is probably Estell Manor(no hills all single track)..........

vettetrek,
you're around the corner!
what do you think of the target/olive garden's recent tree wipe-out at rt 47/high street? lowes/acme killed bambi's romper-room bigtime! wawa ($) seems to rule.....money choses.
ready for the race-track, it looks like it's in route!
do you ride pv land management, union lake area, or road?

If your looking for good trail riding try Manantico. you have to dodge the jeeps and dirt bikes, but there are some good trails and it's got the potential to be a great area. i like to take the first right hand turn off of the main dirt road, there is some wild stuff over there.

How do you get to Ceres Park, I have heard of it, I heard it was usually muddy. Manantico sand ponds? i fished there before but looked too sandy to really ride.

looks like a good area to Kayak, as well!

is "ceres park" = "mantua park" = "lost lakes" (for locals)?

Ceres is right at the intersection of 55 and alt 553. Manantico is sandy on the right side of the main rd, but on the left there is alot of hard packed gravel. You may have to spin trough a little sand at first, but it doesn't last. if you're goin out there on a weekend let me know and i'll show you where i like to ride.

Is this park reachable from Lambs road, Pitman? If you follow the stream south, do you get to Alcion Lake (again in Pitman). Old stopping grounds for me (if this is the place). We called it "Lost Lakes", but I know also it's called Mantua Park (or it was). It's been a good 10 years since I have ridden there.

Try GCC x-country trails or Parvin State Park, both have some interesting areas!

It is right off of Lambs road. It's probably the same place your thinking of. The local kids have been building some nice trails there. Parvins has some nice trails if you know where to look. Have you been down the long swampy trail in the back yet this year? Last year it was rough. It's probably under water right now anyway thanks to the rainbow lake washout. I'm gonna try to get there this weekend to see how bad the damage is.

i got the mtb out today and went to west park, vineland area, at Maurice river. almond road (540) is closed at the bridge, water is everywhere, roads are still closed. parvin lake and all around there still is swamped. the trail near the dam on parvin-mill rd is water covered. when i ride in the back area (with those little step bridges of 1 x 12 x 36 -48 inch boards), i walk the bike over.
maybe i'll see you riding on the trails sometime!

Thanks for the information on the different bike shops around the area. I was only familiar with Action Wheels and Peddler's Shop, but will also check out the other two places, Pro-Peddels and Beacon, for a decent first road bike. Planning on sticking to the road than compared to riding off road. actually i did go to peddler's shop like a week ago and they had an 05 fuji team pro for $1399 and the guy said that he probably would be able to sell it for $1299, but at that time i was not sure if it was a good deal or not. came home trying to do some research on it, but was not really able to find out much, only that the msrp on fuji's website was $1998.

as for the century, it seems like alot, but hopefully by 6/2/07, and be somewhat fit. As of having no bike now, i have just been running in the morning for 2 or 3 miles depending on how much time i have and how i feel.

if i don't make it to the "get ready metric century" already made up my mind that i am going to do the bikephilly and there is supposedly another ride from the ben franklin bridge to ocean city, both in september i believe. really wanted to do the 5 borough bike ride in new york, but with no bike as of yet, will probably end up doing that next year.
