Hey whats up my name is zack I live in CT well its been snowing latley so cant ride to much but i have a POVERTY BUCK 99 got it from Danscomp well anyways iam a noob at bmx biking and I need to ask some questions. First I wanted to know if this is a good bike? Its seem heavy iam only 15 and i cant bunnyhop at high and i land pretty bad. I know how to bunnyhop *i think i do* i can get both wheels of the air but i cant get it high at all. Well the first time i got into bmx biking i had a walmart huffy lol then got this. I guess i could say i gave up bmx biking in the summer cuz i was getting bored i dont have many biker freinds that would ride with me or show me some good places but i have a skatepark right near my house but i think one of the reason i gave up biking was b.c i got bored i cant do SHi* on my bike just ride around the skate park and ride the nipple lol i love doing that. I think once i learn to hoppy high it will get fun but i keep trying and i dont even see an improvement. Also i hate the brakes on my bike, I see other bikers dont even have like orgy brakes that let you spin are thos better? Is this a good bike for a noob thats week lol also is there anything i can do to make it lighter. The bike specs are Poverty Sofa seat, alloy brake lever, alloy U-brake with detangler, Poverty POW 3-pc cranks, 44T solid chainwheel, Poverty Peddler platform pedals, Alex 48H rims with alloy hubs. 3/8" front , 14mm rear axle, Maxxis Holy Roller tires. Chainstay 14.25- 15.5" 20" Toptube (32 lbs. Witch brakes should i buy and can i take this hole orgy crap off.

Also if i cut the handel bars is there a certain length?

you may be able to go to a shop and have them cut the bars for you. the size is all about how you feel- don't cut the n too short it makes for a unstable ride - and it's dangerous.
your bike is fine for you and don't worry ... you'll learn stuff quick. The best way to learn is to find some friends that ride and ride together as much as you can. I would ride everyday -- EVERYDAY!! and hey if you can try to get a job at a bike shop on the weekends! that's what i did and it was the best thing-- discount on parts and i learned how to work on all kinds of bikes. it keeps you in bike mode.
just keep practicing. you will learn.
as far as the brakes go if you can afford it i would get a SST orgy, it help you learn bar-spins and other tricks plus your brakes don't get tangled. as you get more advanced you can ride brakeless like those "hardcore" riders.

I'm amazed at the amount of sarcasm you can generate Beerman, it' funny. I'm not being sarcastic, I really do think your funny.
This must be what I sounded like when I first came here, huh?

Dude, that is no way, by any means a heavy bike. 32 pounds is average weight for a stock bike like that, and it is not very heavy. My bike felt like a monster when I first got it, but now I'm in control. Mine weighs 34 pounds, and I have NO problems with it. You just need to ride your bike and get used to it for a year, then you'll see that it really isn't that heavy. But you HAVE TO, I REPEAT HAVE TO ride your bike and want to get better or else you will not. Doesn't matter if you have friends to ride with or not, it helps sometimes but in the end it's still just you and your bike. And you're the one that has to be good on YOUR bike, not someone else. So I'd suggest just riding your stinking bike as much as you frickin' can, and if it's too heavy just get some muscles on you!
Oh, by the way, I'm fifteen too, so I'm in the same situation that you are except I've been riding for a year, my bike is heavier, and I'm stronger than you.

No, that's what you still "sound" like, and the patronization is really starting to become incredibly annoying. And that comment - the one about paragraphs - wasn't even sarcasm: it was the truth.
And after reading his post again, I have to wonder exactly what a "nipple" is, because, frankly, I've never heard of an skatepark obstacle described that way before.

hey, if u still wanna make ur bike lighter jus do little mods like the seat post thats still in ur frame n a inch off ur bars(if there too long). u can do all that cust w/ a haksaw n someone/thing to keep it still. u dont hav to make the cuz perfect either.
i liv in ct too, wut park u got to?

Well, the tires should say what max. and min. psi should be, so why not check for that first? What tires do you have?

No, no, no, I'm not saying that you need a pump that tells the PSI in your tire. I'm asking you what kind of tires you have. ALMOST all tires have their recomeded minimum PSI level and their recomended maximum PSI level printed on the tire wall. So you need to look for that on your tires and that should give you all of the information you need on PSI levels. Now, as for the tire pressure gauge, you can get those almost anywhere, walmart, lowes, any local bike shop, etc. . And to make it easy for you here's a link to danscomp.com, it has a picture of the most common and easiest to use tire pressure gauge that your going to find at any of those stores I just listed and danscomp has them for purchase at their site too. http://www.danscomp.com/products/TOOLS/811219.jpg
If you want to buy it from danscomp.com, just go to their site and click on the TOOLS catagory to the left; it should then give you three drop-down options that consist of Tools, Tools-Parktools, and Tools-Lubricants. Click on just the plain Tools option from the drop-down list, and then just scroll down to the very bottom on the main page and it should be right there on the right of the screen. Hope I could help.

Edit: I'm sorry, there is no need to tell me what tires you have, you've already mentioned that and I didn't notice. The Maxxis Holy Roller tires that are on your bike have a MAXIMUM of 60 PSI, I wouldn't exceed that more than ten more PSI. As for the minimum, I'm not sure, but it's most likely somewhere around 40 PSI, so stay close to that. So just get a tire pressure gauge so you know what your tire pressure is, ( like the one I showed you) and keep your tire pressure anywhere inbetween 60 PSI, and 40 PSI, and you should be fine. Hope this gets you an idea of the appropriate tire pressure range for your tires.

If you have one of the lower volume (lower width) holyrollers, I'd actually run close to the maximum.. I can't prove this, but it seems the thinner the tire, the more air it would need to absorb impacts better. If you have a wide one, like the 2.2 or so, I'd run near minimum pressure.
I run 35 psi, slightly less than the minimum, but I have the maxxis HighRoller (26" tire), and the sidewalls are stiff so it doesn't bend out of shape much.

Is that for a 20 inch BMX? 6 pounds less than my tandem with dowhill forks? I wonder what the Redline Carrera and 600A weighed when they came out in the early 80's. That was the last time I owned a new BMX, other than my Haro cruiser. Not taking cheap shots at your bike, just surprised they weigh so much these days.

Maybe you should just back off a little Beerman. And if you realy can't tell what the object looked like by the name he gave it(a "nipple") I feel very sorry for you. I hope that you are just acting stupid and that normaly you can find out what people mean with simple explanations like that.
Maybe if you looked at how he said what he said you would realize that the reason he said nipple was just to explain the objest as best as he could becasue he didn't know the exact name to the object. He probably just figured that all of the people on this forum would have enough brains to find out what he ment, but I guessed you proved him wrong.

Yes, my bike is a 20" inch freestyle bike built for abuse, not racing. And that weight is about average for stock bikes like mine.

My tandem is built for abuse too, but I'm surprised a BMX weighs that much. Oh well, I suppose you don't break stuff too often.

No, I don't break things too often. But freestyle bikes are the most built-up bikes on the bike market, at least I thought they were. Because MTB's don't need quite as heavy frame because the better one's have full suspension, right? I'm not sure, but it makes sense to me. And I'm sure you tandem is built to take abuse, they just probably built it up in a different way, in a differenty area than on a bmx bike, but again, I'm not sure because I don't know much about MTB's, or tandems. In fact, I'm a little embarrassed to mention this, but I don't even know what a 'tandem' is, I was just asuming that it was a mountain bike. (MTB) I'm sure I'm wrong though.

That is a tandem. Obviously, his definition of "abuse" is going to be slightly different from ours.
That's not exactly what I was referring to, but close. A tandem is a bike built for two. Something you obviously know now. This is our tandem. Slightly heaver than your BMX, but able to cop serious abuse. Set up to work with up to 400 pounds worth of passengers, but my wife and I are well under that.

What's that noise? The BS meter going off? I suppose if you were extremely gifted with upper body strength, you could stand a tandem on the front wheel. Defying gravity is one thing, defying physics is another. A manual on a tandem would be impressive if only it wasn't nearly impossible to get the front wheel up on a long wheelbase bike, with all the weight over the front wheel.

Thanks for telling me Beerman. And hell yeah his definition of 'abuse' is going to be A LOT different than ours. The stuff you do on a bmx bike, and the abuse a bmx bike takes from general bmx riding is probably six times more (or even more) than you'd do on that kind of bike. But that is interesting. I've seen those kind of bikes before, but I just didn't know what they were called.

im serious. i saw this mountain bike video named disorder 2: fat tire fury. the video sucked but there was a guy on a unicycle riding on the edge of a bridge , and he was riding trails also. the guy with the tandem was manualing and nose manualing down a steep street. ( I think it was san francisco, but im not sure.)

New World Disorder 2 most likely. Lombard Street in SF is super steep, that may be it. He could probably nose manual down that, but I still don't see how it's possible to get the front wheel off the ground. I'll have to get the video, and if an apology is in order, so be it.
