I'm going to get all my fixed questions out in one evening...

I'm looking for a hub for my singlespeed to use to build a fixed/free rear wheel. If I consider a hub that is set up for fixed/fixed I think I could leave the lockring off one side and thread on a single speed freewheel (BMX, etc.). My question is: It looks like the freewheel portion of the thread on a fixed side is shorter that the freewheel thread on a freewheel side of (a freewheel) hub. I wonder if there is enough thread engagement to prevent spinning the freewheel off e.g. would that be too weak?

Thoughts, suggestions?

Thanks!

There's no way to spin a freewheel off unless you are trying to (meaning, if you are using proper tools and that is your goal).
If you are talking about stripping the threading b/c of forward torque, I've never heard of anyone doing that.

I'm talking about the latter...thanks for clarifying my question. I hadn't heard of anyone doing that either but wasn't sure if anyone else had any issues.

i've known a couple people who ran freewheels on fixed hubs... they're fine...

The guys at my LBS indicated that as long as you have 4 complete threads engaging the freewheel, you should be fine for road/commuter riding.

Just to add another positive voice. I did this for a while. As long as you have some thread engagement it works. At some point I realised the freewheel hadn't been used in a long long time and took it off.

This might not work for trials, but other than that, you should be fine.
