View Full Version : Funny signs during your ride?
OK, I'm going to be brave and start a thread for the first time.
During your bike ride, walk, or drive, do pass any unusual or humorus signs?
I have a collection of signs from my world travels and I'll post one every day or so...with commentary as appropriate.
The rule is: They have to be real signs and you have to take the photo, or at very least be present when the photo was taken! Let us know where the sign is. No photoshopped stuff, please (we can tell).
We can start with my new avitar...
Appropriate address for the library, don't you think?

I went to this library to fill out my passport application last year and thought the address was pretty funny/ironic. Nice!

Do handmade signs count?
There are some funny ones that the some HS kids made, I'll try to take a pic next time I'm out.
Ok I have two but can only find one pic at the moment and seriously can't find the other one.
This one was taken on our trip in England, this sign has been graffitied, but it is really well done.
The one that I can't find was an error on a sign in the aquarium on Sentosa Island in Singapore. There was a part being renovated and the sign said, "Area under renovation. Sorry for any convenience caused"

Heck, why not?
I went to Patrick Henry High School in San Diego. Graduated in '74. I remember the stop sign out of the parking lot had "war" scratched under it, and it remained there for quite a while. As appropriate now as it was then.
As for CranxOC (neat handle), glad you picked up on library address too. I knew this forum has sharp people!
OK, for today's, photo:

Hopefully you have seen or heard about the many signs on I-95 leading to South of The Border ?
Or, about 7 years ago there was a college near Philadelphia called Beaver College.
The have since changed thier name but they had a billboard along the Scyulkill Express way proclaiming thier international study program that said in huge letters.
"Study Abroad at Beaver College".
Blackberry, it sounds like you are a natural for this thread. "Heaven is a bicycle and a camera"
In fact, one of the photos I plan to post was taken not far from Hole in the Wall campground in the Mojave Desert. If you ever camp there, be sure to take the "Ring Hike"
This was taken at the high point of the Santa Ana River trail, near the Riverside-Orange County line. A construction crew was working with heavy equipment and there were flagmen assigned to the bike lane! How cool is that, VC proponents?
Anyway, if you rode from Huntington Beach to this point, you would most likely be flagging too.

I'll have to bring my camera on future rides, but I was riding by a sign that I swore said, "B!TCH AHEAD". Had to slow down to make sure. The bolt holding the sign in place went right thru the "D" making it look like a "B". I giggled cuz I'm immature.

i've seen a pic of a billboard for a phone company that said:
"Phone Out of Service? Give Us A Call."
This was taken by my friend estim8r in Riverside, CA...

We parked here in Germany... not for too long though
One of my all time favorites was a situation of circumstance along the Pennsylvania Turnpike at the top of the mountian just east of Breezewood. There was this pull off near the summit where they had staged some construction equipment and signage, among the assemblage was a huge "SLOW" sign with an arrow pointing down... under which someone had parked an old, tired Vee-Dub hippie van. I laughed my ass off the whole way into Bedford.
If only I'd have had a camera... if only.

Yeah...we weren't sure if this was for tank parking, or how Germans enforced parking regulations.
So...here is a photo of Cloud during our first attempt at the Fullerton Loop. Naturally, we turned around and took the much safer lower trail... :D

HEY, If i can take a fall skateboarding on a vert ramp... I'm sure that it's just fine for bikes... and have you seen how thick the plastic IS on those. Indestructable (except for me dropping it haha :D )
[after post] Oops: i thought this was the funny pic thread. I'll re-post there
OK folks, stay with me on this on this one. (Also, I did photoshop this to hide the real name of the businesses.)
I see this guy most every day on the I10 west. He's living the CA dream! Retired, successful. Still surfing! That young guy in the background, maybe his son? I'll bet he taught him how to surf. I like this guy. If I were going to be planted after I die, I might consider coming to Fawn Lawn. I can spend eternity overlooking the 10 freeway. (Shoot, I've alread spent an eternity...)
So imagine my surprse, when I saw THIS billboard for another mortuary...not 15 miles away!
Not really funny but I like them nevertheless...

My favorite sign was one I saw in Mass. Every house is historic and has a sign out front. As I was riding along I was looking at all the dates, mostly from the 1700's. As I glanced over at one house it said "Wampanoag Bed and Breakfast, established 1491. I was 1/2 a mile away before the "huh" reflex cut in!

My favorite billboard is on I-75 Northbound, near Brooksville.
It's an advert for the National Meat Council or somthinorudder.
It shows a perfectly grilled steak with a potato...etc. and reads:
"WHAT VEGETARIANS EAT WHEN THEY CHEAT!"

in my neighborhood, there are crossing lights with hands on them instead of writing, because too many illiterate immigrants getting hit by cars.the hands are made with small light bulbs, one hand green, the other hand red. my friends used to pop open this piece of plastic that covered the lights, and we popped every light bulb except the ones on the middle finger. we laughed for a few minutes

click to 'edit' your post, highlight the URL to your pic, and then click the icon that looks like this:
http://www.bikeforums.net/images/editor/insertimage.gif
that will automatically enclose your URL in IMG ... /IMG tags
... there are other ways, but this way is pretty easy.
