Foo - A squirrel BARKED at me !!!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
On my commute today, a squirrel passed within a foot of my front tire, then in spun around and crossed back in front of me with about six inches to spare, and as it passed, it BARKED at me, how funny is that !?
It was a young squirrel, very small, but it barked like a dog !

the only response is to bark right back at him. just make sure your friends aren't around. it may be hard to live down the time you were in the park barking at squirrels. :p
Maybe it was a bunch of young squirrels daring each other. That, or you have to put down whatever it is you're smoking.

I would have just barked back, but then again I bark at one of my Attorneys. :D
was it more of a squeak or a bark? and were you high?

They will do that. We suprised one a few weeks ago. It jumped about 2 feet in the air, did several flips, landed on all four and dashed up a bank back into the woods. At first I thought the guy in front of me had hit it. He didn't, he only scared it. When they panic they do really odd things....

I would would have upped the cadence a bit before it came back the second time. Squirrels are an evil evil creature.

The Army of Darkness is BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anybody else creeped out by the black ones here in new york? never seen the buggers anywhere else...
I'd also like to note grey squirrels are quite tasty, and low in fat :) They make great stew and chow mein (sp?). Red squirrels on the other hand all need to die. Give me a .22 and enough ammo and i'd greatly enjoy killing every single one of them in upstate ny.

Every time I see one I hear a high-powered rifle shot. Overkill, I know, but it sounds better than a .22.

I'm convinced they're out to get me

When i went to the USA, Squirrels were the coolest thing. I was a lot younger when i went so, naturally, i was constantly chasing them and trying to catch one. Not that i ever did. And come to think of it, im glad i didnt!

I got attacked by a pet squirrel once. Thing is, I didn't know it was a pet that time. Scared the hell out of my friend and I, we were running away from it with it chasing us, after it climbed up me and I threw it up in the air and took off.
Stupid animal... finally it got eaten by a bird or something, like a year later.

Pigs bark too when they get an attitude. Sounds kind of funny because they aren't very good at it.

I have a whole family of black squirrels on my property. They don't creep me out...I think they are pretty cool!
Never had a squirrel bark at me though!

I had one jump out in front of me on the bike path today. I chased it and barked at it. He just stayed in the middle of the trail for close to 20 yards, running like hell.
