Bicycle Mechanics - Differnce in shim amount in 105 and tiagra derailleurs?

I just replaced my Tiagra front derailleur with a 105 front derailleur, both are double but I am finding it a little more difficult to adjust the 105. The Tiagra seems to have 3 shim settings but it seems that the 105 has 4 shim settings which seems to be a little too much because when shifting to the large chainring the chain shifts right over it. I've tried using the high-lower adjustment screws but have not had much luck.

It's not quite clear to me what you mean by "shim settings" but I think you're speaking of "trim settings." These are in the shifter, not the derailer, so changing the derailer would have no effect, aside from the fact that a new derailer does need to be adjusted.

DaveAs The man says. The trim is in the shifters. www.parktool.com repair section has the drill on derailer adjustment.Start at the beginning with proper position and aalignment.Also, if the derailer is new, Shimanos instructions are as good as it gets.
