Greetings,
Today I was looking at the tires on my Bontrager wheels and noticed that the max PSI is 100 for the Bontrager tires. I'll be replacing them before my first race April 30th and thought I'd see if you had any specific recommendations for tires. I'm looking for clincher tires.
Thanks!

I have been pondering the same issue. I was very pleased with the Michelin Ironmans (116 max psi) I used last year for racing and training. I found a clincher (Vredestein Fortezza TriComp) that goes up to 145 psi. So the question is, do I stay with the tire that has proven its worth or opt for the one that might offer slightly increased performance? Sometimes it is hard to resist the appeal of new toys...

I highly recommend the Continental Grand Prix 3000's. I think they are better than Michelin's in durability, rolling resistance, and grip in the corners. They're pricey BUT much more affordable at www.biketiresdirect.com

I seem to waffle back and forth between Michelin and Continental tires. On my Lemond I had Michelin and on the training wheelset I bought from Rev.Chuck here on the forums they came with Continental. One of my buddies here at work has a pair of Vredestein's so I'm looking at those as well. Decisions, decisions....

Tire pressure has nothing to do with performance (assuming you keep the pressure within reasonable limits). Rolling resistenance is the critical factor and that is chiefly affected by the manufacturers design.
Vreds used to be my favorite. Then production got switched from Holland to the far east. Theer have been some quality problems since then. Conti's (Grand Prix - 3000) are good but the sidewalls are a little weak. Mich Pro Race 2 are excellent.
Are the race spec Hutchinson's in this mix?

I'll consider any tire as long as it's a clincher. Which Hutchinson's are you talking about?

Specialized S-works, mondo tires came highly recommended to me, and I now am running them. Light, well built, and take up to either 130 or 135 pounds of air. The only problem is the inability to buy them on-line (except of course from Specialized at list price).
