Cmon don't be shy! We need to support these guys like Don and Jonny Cycles. I want to see who has them and how they feel about the frame.

Post those pics!!!

I love my Don Walker frame, it's light, stiff, and has a slightly sloping top-tube. The silver-brazed joints are a work of art, so well blended. I would highly recommend one to anyone looking for a custom frame. Plus, Don is a really cool guy. He told me on the phone the other day that if one of my friends wanted to put $400 down on a custom frame he would start on it (he's backordered about 6 weeks right now) and send it to them after they payed it off. I'll post a few pics of mine in a few...

Ok, it's a bit dirty and the lighting is horrible but here are a few shots I just took:

Damn! That's some tight fork-tire clearance! Is that <1mm?
Let's hope you don't hit a pothole and knock your rim out of true!

Beautiful. Tight clearance up front. How's the strength on those rear chainstays?

Judah
03-10-05, 08:44 PM
They're Mavic MA40s laced 4-cross to Suntour Superbe Pros, that would be some pothole...

The clearance is about 1mm.

The bike feels nice and stiff, made from Reynolds 731 oversize (says Race Only) with a 531 fork. The stays are pretty thin but I've never felt them flex, and I like to climb hills. I LOVE the way it rides, on the track and on the street, but I try to avoid commuting on it because, the less pothole exposure the better :)

You haven't seen boston potholes, or have you?

Judah
03-10-05, 08:54 PM
I live in downtown SF, you don't have to tell me about potholes, I could show you some killers. There was one a block from my house that cars would get stuck in, no joke.

Fillet brazed?

dolface
03-10-05, 09:16 PM
iirc it's fillet-brazed except for the seattube cluster, is that right judah?

Judah
03-10-05, 09:20 PM
Yup, the top tube is joined to the seatube with a lug, the rest is silver brazed. The other Walker is 531 oversized and all fillet brazed, I'll post a picture of it when I get it built up...

judah that just became one of my favorite bikes. the clearance is tear-jerkingly beautiful.

Looks like you're about to drop it into the washing machine. Might fit if you disassemble it enough... ;)

I saw a few of Don's frames at the Handbuilt frame show in Houston.
I was really impressed with his work, his fillet brazing is drop dead gorgeous.
Amid such luminaries as Brian Baylis, Richard Sachs, Sacha White, Don
really held his own.
Glad he put on the show, I'd heard of his bikes but never had seen any.

Judah, Thanks for the kind words! I finally got the replacement decals ready. They will go out tomorrow. Is the dark blue sprint frame built up yet?

DW

now thats what i'm talking about...welcome to the boards......

on a side note....

judah mentioned both a new wheelset for one of my current bikes, and a new frameset in front of my girl friday night....she didn't give the nod for the go ahead.....she didn't say no either...

and i dig the part of the active military discount, that speaks to me more than you'll ever know.......

To post a photo you can hit the Go Advanced button. There's a Manage Attachments further down on that page (or if you're using Internet Explorer it may even appear right below the Quick Reply box). That will allow you to attach an image.

If you've already got an image on a web site and you want to just include it inline, all you have to do is get the URL for the image and make like

Hey,
I've seen some of his frames before 'cause you can link up to his site through the fixed-gear-gallery.
I was not interested before 'cause I was jobless but now I'm gonna give his site another once over. Hopefully it will be my first custom bike.....
Thanks again and also much welcome to the forums, Don!! :roflmao:  :roflmao:

those frames are awesome! but how do you ride such oversized tubes on the street?
isnt that even stiffer than oversized aluminium?

Ceya

back up if more people here want to get custom frames.

Judah

Yeah, if you're thinking about a custom frame, you should seriously consider a Walker.

Ceya

Thanks Judah. a satisfied customer of custom frames.

I've been looking into Walker frames. They seem great. What first sparked my interest is "Walker" since that's my last name... I thought it would be great to own a frame with my last name on the down tube. :)

Forgot to post this up, got the sprint bike built up a few weeks ago. Rides beautifully, feels a little stiffer than the blue deer. Gets up faster too, if that's possible ;p
Pic (already posted in the picture thread, but hey, why not):

Hmm, not that I deserve such a frame (yet), but I figure by the time I've saved up the money I might just be worthy to ride one. Hopefully Don isn't 15 years backordered by then!! :D
