Mountain Biking - Single speed Jump bikes

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

What are your oppinions on single speed jump bikes, for example the Norco Havoc, they seem more cost effective when you dont have gears and derailleurs to worry about, and for dirt jumping there would be a lot less noise when you miss judge a jump, and smack the rear wheel. What are your oppinions, and do you know other bikes that are single speed and are used for dirt jumping?

My son has a P1 and swears by it.
He even talked me into getting a P2.
He beats the hell out of his and all hes had to do is tighten up the hubs.
Two  for a P1 !!

I have a DMR Rythym but i dont think they're seen much in the US, but mine is single speed and i love it for jumping, if you want to go jumping, IMO single speed is defintely the best way.

I like pretending my bike is a single speed, but I dont get all the advantages of a real SS that way. Still drops the chain at times, bounces around, inefficent, etc.
When I get a bmx bike it'll be single speed (of course). :)
