Road Cycling - My Helmet

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I just recently purchased a Giro Pneumo (helmet) to go with my road bike. I have a question to all of you experienced cyclists out there. Do you think it's neccessary to use the straps on the helmet, or would I be just fine with the roc-loc system tightened? It feels really secure with the roc-loc in place, I just don't like the pesky strap tightened against my jaw/neck. So what do you think?

Hi RoAdRaGeR, picture this...
First scenario: with strap fixed, you crash, head bounces first time, helmet crushes on side of impact, head bounces second time , helmet still on retained by strap crushes again, but saves skull.
Second scenario: no strap and you crash, head bounces first time, helmet crushes and is catapulted off by impact and compression, head bounces second time...

The roc-loc holds it in place in normal circumstances. Hitting the pavement or trail at 30km an hour is not a normal circumstance. The roc-loc will not hold it in place during an accident.
The strap should be firm but not uncomfortably tight under your chin. Check the instructions that come ith the helmet. They should show you a more comfortable way to set up the straps.
I know the RocLoc is tight and seems like you may not need the chin strap, but you absolutely DO need to wear it. Read the other posts. They're absolutely correct.

What a silly question for me to ask...My brain became really afraid of me when I typed that new thread, it tried to jump out my ears, but I shoved it back in! After hearing your guys' reply, I guess I will always use the straps.
