Hello! Ive decided that i want to run a single chain ring in the front. I am having trouble moving the front derailleur to the position that keep the chain on the top ring ( the bike came with 2 rings and a bash gaurd, so its actually the middle ring i want) Also the adjusting the limit screws did not help. So my question is, how can i use my front derailleur as a chain guide?

Thanks,

Karl

if your chainline is good, you won't need the front der. take off the derailler, and all of the excess chainrings. get a set of single ring binder bolts (like $5) and install.

if your crank is rivetted...get another crank if you want a single front ring.

Even with a good chainline, modern chains are so laterally flexible that they can bounce off a 1x9 system. I use a really old Suntour front mech that can be positioned using the limit screws.
