I like the one-way streets in the city. I take a whole lane to myself on these, and the speed limit intown is helpful to cyclists.

Do you have one-way streets? Do you feel better on them, or not?

I like people having room to pass me. But I hate turning left--having to cross lanes or get in the left lane in traffic. I also seem to want to go left onto one of them for only a block which isn't enough time to cross to the right side, but too long to stay left in heavy traffic. Plus, we have so many one ways and pedestrian malls in Iowa City that one has to either ride on the sidewalk illegally or at least annoyingly, or go blocks out of their way to follow all the oneway streets.

I live a little out of the immediate city and my area is all one way streets. I personally like it very much. People can drive like idiots around here and only having to worry about them from one direction is nice.

In California, bicyclists are permitted to ride either on the left or the right side of a one-way street, which greatly faciltates making a left turn.

I like the left side for two reasons.

Firstly, there are typically less cars on the left on normal one way streets because most people feel "safer" on the right side.

Secondly, the chances of getting doored are vastly reduced.
