I recently took the Park Tools bicycle maintenace level I class at my LBS and am signed for for level II.

In the meantime, I'd like to get a good, basic "Bicycle Repair and Maintenance for the Mechanically Challenged" book.

What book do you recommend for someone who has no prior wrenching knowledge?

I'm hoping the new Park maintenance book will be the best. I have most of the others, but have no opinion as to which is "best."

I have been considering Barnetts Bicycle Manual as it seems detailed; but it is costly compared to others.

I believe that you must be "blessed" with "mechanical aptitude" and a book will only be necessary for reference. Just as some are musically inclined. You should be able to visualize the entire disassembly and assembly rather than just following instruction without understanding the process. But even the most gifted mechanic must know how to use the tools of the trade.
