Mountain Biking - ticky noise

on my new bike the ticky noise from the back wheel is quite loud when i free-wheel. previously i have poured a little synthetic motor oil down behind the largest cog and that would give me super stealth riding for a couple of months. being a new bike i just wanted to check that doing this is ok :)

it should be fine, as long as it doesnt have any specific attributes specially for engines. the best oil i have found is made by wrench force, im not sure whether you have that in the US, but yeah it should be fine.

Where is the Lake District? A few years ago a friend and I rode from Hull (where our ferry docked) up to Edinburgh and sortof got lost in the fistival. :D

the lake district is pretty much opposite hull and down abit, its on the west coast, just below the scottish border, so you would have been only a hundred or so miles away.

Cool. It's interesting, the distances are so much different in the UK. I immediately think hmmm, 100 miles that is fairly far ... but here we travel 100 miles to go shopping. Thanks for the response.

Oil is ideal for freewheels, though they don't need to be lubed so frequently. I don't think it will cause problems, though you should wipe away the excess oil so as not to attract dirt and grit.

cool, i'll put some on tonite. i just wanted to make sure that it wasn't supposed to be a high friction part since all bikes make the noise. i wouldn't normally mind but it seems to be pretty loud on this bike.
