Everybody seems to use Cytomax as their preferred beverage for longer rides. I'd like to try some but I can't find the ingredients listed anywhere. Does anyone know if it's vegan and/or where I can find the ingredients listed? Just trying to gear up for my first century and it sounds like this stuff is rather helpful.

I did a google search for the term cytomax ingredients and found this for you.

From http://www.nicemuscle.com/cytomax-81097.htm

Cytomax Ingredients
CytoSport's Unique Complex Carbohydrate Blend including Amylopectin Starches and Maltodextrins from Corn Hybrids, Alpha L-Polylactate (our patented l-lactate formulation containing non-acidic l-lactate ionically bound to l-arginine, fructose, glycine, l-histidine and l-alanine, sodium l-lactate, potassium l-lactate, l-pyruvate), Fructose, Glucose, Potassium Succinate, L-Glutamic Acid, Inosine, Magnesium Succinate, Calcium Succinate, Citric Acid, Malic Acid, Natural Flavors, Ascorbic Acid, L-Alanine, L-Glutamine, Food Gum, Chromium Polynicotinate (chromeMate gtf)

BTW -- Good luck on your first century. On mine (1/10/2005) I consumed 100 oz (camelbak blowfish) of water, 2 bike bottles of Gatorade, a bunch of Nature Valley granola bars and some cold whole wheat pasta.

I saw that ingredient list from a search, too- but it's just impossible to determine what the source of many of those ingredients are. My guess is that there's bound to be some animal products in there somewhere, probably in many of them.

Last time I was in San Fran I went to a Co-op grocery that I think was called Rainbow Foods that seemed to have a fair amount of vegan supplements... Not sure about Chicago.

Yeah, I'm all set on the supplement front. I was just wondering specifically about hydration and electrolyte replacement options, stuff that I can drink so I don't cash out on mile 80.

Given the ambiguity of how some of those ingredients are sourced it seems like the word is still out. I might email the company and see what they have to say.

If you're unsure of what kind of drink you may need, if at all, I've done centuries with just good ole water, granola, and bananas.
