Well, enough of taking the chain off for me. Has anyone seen any of those cleaning units on sale anywhere. The housing that attaches onto the chain. thanks

Nikos, you can still break the chain, but if you do see to it that the pin doesn't go all the way thru, if that happen you should have the replacement pin ready, coz, I think the old pin will not work properly, as for a good chain cleaner, If I am tired and I want to clean the chain after my ride, I just use WD40, and spray the chain with it holding the WD40 nozzle very near the chain and a rug right behind the chain where I am spraying, and spining the pedal, but also see to it that the WD40 will be very dry on the chain... because the way WD40 work it is a degreaser in way , I think.......

I picked up a chain cleaner for very little from www.probikekit.com a few months back, but personally I found buying a SRAM powerlink chain a better solution.

I just spent $25 for a chain cleaner, now my chain looks new. Much less hassle than taking the chain off for a lazy person like myself.

I don't know if I will get any flack for this but I use Automotive Style Brake Cleaner. This is the most potent stuff I have ever seen. It does have alot of fumes so I would recommend doing it outdoors or somewhere with good ventalation. Take your chain off, Spray for about 10 seconds, they blow the excess off with an air compressor and bang, Super clean chain faster than any other method.
