Mountain Biking - Oakley Gloves

Does Oakley still make their mtb gloves? I know they had some last year but do they still make them for '05 or was it a one time thing?

Those cost 80 euros last time I checked the Oakley shop. :( Carbon fiber knuckles. :D

Yeah, $70,- USD on the online Oakley-shop. I'd rather get some fox'es for about halve the price though.

I can't agree more that oakleys are overpriced, but at the same time, you pay for a reputation and quality....not to mention oakley sets their prices, and retailers (authorized ones) cannot vary from the pricing.

I love them. I have a set (they don't actually make them, some other company does and oakley and others buy the rights to use them)...those kevlar protectors kick ass :D

95 dollars will get you a pair that will last you for a while. I own 3 pairs...the most expensive was 170.

I prefer pearl izumi which is quite overpriced :D

I'm a total Oakley ***** however, I live about 5 miles from the Oakley factory (in Foothill Ranch...where the dude was eaten by the mountain lion last year) and I can generally find someone to get me a deal on their stuff but so I usually don't pay full price. Even though their stuff is pricey, it's very high quality and it usually lasts a very long time, plus they stand behind their products moreso than most other apparell companies that I'm aware of. You have a problem with one of their products, send it back and 9 out of 10 times they're going to fix it or send you a new item.

I've owned 4 pairs of Oakleys. In fact, I was wearing Oakleys long before most of you had even heard of them :) I got my first pair from a friend who worked on the cult ski film "Maltese Flamingo" in 1980 or so. They were basically ski goggle lenses with ear pieces snapped on. Oakley was a minor sponsor of that cinematic classic.

Since then, I've broken 3 of the 4 pairs (the fourth was stolen) in minor accidents. I had a pair of the old Frogs that actually wore out (the plastic pin that makes up the hinge).

7 years ago, my wife bought me a pair of $50 Bolle's. They've been abused worse than any Oakley I've owned and still look as good as the day I bought 'em.

Obviously, there's a lot of luck involved in keeping a pair of sunglasses in tact and no glasses are impervious to damage. I can't see spending 3x the money on something doesn't seem to be a single bit less prone to breakage.

Of course, I'm a passionate Oakley hater so take this post for what it's worth :)

They were overpriced, the optics are okay but not perfect, and I get internal reflections and can see a ghost image of my eyeballs most of the time. But man do they look cool. I guess I'm an oakley hater who will continue buying and wearing their products...

LOL!! You're the kind of customer every marketer in America loves to hate...you'll continue to buy the product while badmouthing it to everyone therefore deterring them from buying it for themselves! :eek:

Dont get me started. I might also recommend against Rocky Mountain bicycles... which I have several of, and am still a loyal customer to, notwithstanding their hype-based marketing and 6-month "you bought it you own it" warranty....

I was working as a wrench at a shop over 20 years ago when Oakley was only making grips. Remember the Oakley 3's. I loved those grips.

Anyways, the rep comes in an tries to get my boss to buy their "new" sunglasses". Of course I'm stoked. I talk my boss into putting in an order of 20. Of which I buy two the huge goggle/glasses and a set of black Frogs. I was also doing a lot of windsurfing back then and started talking to the rep about it as he was just learing.

Somehow I get a "Grassroots" sponsorship from Oakley. Oakley sends me huge decals and I put one on each of my sails, and on my car. Then their "Razor" comes out. I buy two more pair. I'm selling these to my friends faster than the shop can get them in. In two months, we sold over 150 pair.

Man, that was a fun couple of years.

I recently got a pair of new Oakley Aframes (with high int. lense), got them for $70 and it was totally worth it, best goggles ive ever worn. I tried the wisdoms, they fit funny, but the A frames are dope. Im using my old pair for racing now if I cant sell them, but I do think the Wisdoms are over priced if not on sale. I was really looking into the Oakley gloves, that knuckle protection would be worth it, and its about the price of 2 gloves (70-80).
