Anyone here have a link to a video of the stylee fixie dismount? It's only a legend to me.
(And why does "stylee fixie dismount" sound like a jug and banjo band?) Thanks in advance.
I can do it. it's not hard. I can actually do it on my non-fixed bike. There's some shots of Kevin Bacon doing it in Quicksilver.

oh the one where you jump off the back
no...i cant do it
I thought it was when you swung one leg over the seat and stepped off the side...

smooth karate-kick action over the handlebars...yeah baby...super sexy if you do it while moving still.

i just think kevin bacon is a bad ass. especially in flatliners. so the stylin' dismount is definitly good.

I hate to seem, you know, pushy…..
Let the unacceptable candidates worry about that.
I tried it once a while back. Missed the seat and down went the bike. I got it the second time, but realized it is totally unnecessary. Kick over the bars makes much more sense.

Just went out and practiced it. As Sheldon says, it's deceptively easy. I found it helped to have one hand reaching for the seat as I was beginning to straighten my right leg to initiate the dismount. And I'm not entirely sure it's unnecessary... it'd be pretty sweet to be able to dismount straight into a walk, instead of fully stopping your bike to swing your leg over. Kinda like a cyclocross-style running mount...

Oh No, another new "Kewl" technique to master??? I still can't trackstand or skid-stop. I should give it up.
cyclocross style running mount...now that could come in handy. I'm scared I'm gonna rack myself if I try it though.

I am slick with the dismount for about %60 of my attempts, Sheldon is the best right up on it I have found for on fixedgear101. The cyclocross dismount is much harder for me, I don't think I can do it fixed, and freewheel it is freaky enough running clipless.

Yeah, my boys scream out in terror whenever I'm about to try it. I hear you're supposed to land on the saddle with your 'inner thigh' which, last time I checked, was dangerously close to parts that don't like to be pinched. Definitely a finely honed skill... and that, boys-n-girls, is why they're professionals.

You can see a half second or so bit of a guy dismounting in http://www.dontshootthemessengers.com/trailer/trailer.html
It's very brief. It's just a tiny bit over the halfway point. Have your mouse on the pause button.

Personally I go with a PT Barnum 3-ring circus superman dismount. I can see you're all very impressed now.
Anyhow, instead of going over the back, I clip out, swing my right leg up and back so it's sort of trailing behind and about level with the saddle. About this time the left crank comes up and gives me a little boost. Hold the bars as you swing up and off to the left, quasi CX style.
As you swing back down land in a walk and act cool.
I didn't think it was much but my neighbors gave me props, so I guess it must look cooler than I thought. ;)
mastering the cyclocross mount/dismount is the absolute key to destroying in
the stairmaster stage of the tour da chicago. it isn't too difficult on a fixed except
your left leg keeps bobbing up & down while you prep for the run.
i have neither mastered this technique or destroyed the stairmaster.

That's exactly what I do too, but now that I've seen that video, I'm gonna go hurt myself practicing this off-the-back method...

The off the back method is super easy, I did it the day after I started riding fixie. You just kinda have to do it. I stopped doing it once I got clipless, I've seen some nasty spills when your foot accidently clips back in.

It's not hard to do.. Sheldon says its only possoble on a fixed gear but I always do it on my bmx.. the difference is I dont take off one foot and then the other I just kind of jump off the back and catch the seat. I never thought twice about doing it on my fixie. It's not hard to do.
Personally I go with a PT Barnum 3-ring circus superman dismount.
Is that anything like my tried and trued parking lot flop? I've been reworking the technique of late, keeping both feet firmly clipped in place, people seem more impressed by that.
how about...the front wheel sliding on ice, lay down the bike. Pretend it was on purpose (keep feet clipped in).
i broke my leg doin that shet! could't get my foot loose from the left clip, knee cap dislocated.

I found the dismount where you jump off the back like in the critical mass easier to do on a single speed or if you're already uncliped. The leg over the front is cool but more difficult at speed. My favorite is the one that BT explained where you take one leg off and let the other crank push you up and over the bike. I can still pull this manuver ar a pretty good speed so I like it a lot more.
I was doing it my way, where i would just unclip from both clips and slide off the back of the seat, i tried it sheldons way, works so much better. I had one real smooth looking dismount, then i tried it in public and nearly made an ass of myself.

Only if you kick the bike out sideways in front of you so that when you hit the end of the ice you can put the rubber down and spring back up and ride away.

the rear dismount is ok, but I still think the forward dismount over the bars is slicker,, just don't try it if you have short legs, or prefer a large frame

I just kinda stop and put one foot on the ground and than lean the bike a bit and swing the other one over. I must be getting old.

does anyone have a link to video of this dismount while moving or some advice on how to do it without wanting to hide in your apartment for the summer? standing still is easy, but i'm not quite sure i grasp the concept when the bike is in motion. thanks.

i'm dating a guy who does it pretty sweet. i'll see if i can get a video clip of him doing it for you. you just take one foot out of the clip, allow the other pedal to pull you up off the seat, left foot down, right foot out and down, catch the bike by the back of the saddle.

I almost dies this morning doing that. I unclipped one foot, the crank lifted me up, I through my leg over the top tube. Then I couldn't get my other foot unclipped, so I did this wierd cross legged hop on one foot thing until I stopped the bike. I'm sure it looked awesome.

try swinging your leg behind you instead of in front of you and then grab your seat as your coming down and unclipping the second foot at the same time.

I would imagine that it would be more difficult with clipless pedals, but it's friggin' easy in clips/straps provided you don't crank them down too tight. I think it took me about two tries to figure out how to do it, which says way way more about the ease of the manouver than it does about my skills (or lack thereof).

Duh. That makes total sense. My pretzel dismount was no where near as sweet as I thought it was going to be. Thanks.

but does anyone here have advice on how to do this one? especially while moving. greg goode's fixed 101 has a explanation of how to do it when the bike is stopped, but i swear i've seen it in motion.

i find the phrase, "i meant to do that," works well... you know, pee-wee style!
Am I the only one on this board that allows my bike to stop then steps off the pedals? I had no idea how lame I must look. Such is life I suppose.

That is what I'm talking about. I don't really remember. CRS. I'll think about it.
