Hey,
Before I got my current Gary fisher "real" bike I had a cheepie from Wal-mart(dont flame me for this!) and decided that riding that was nothing like riding a good bike so I replaced it. One thing that I noticed is that it had air shocks. Even the cap on top was off it would still compress and I was just wondering how it could do that if there was no cap on? Also arent air shocks really expensive?
Thanks

A wal-mart bike with air shocks? Not going to happen. It might be a coil-air fork but no way air.

Well when the cap on the fork was off there was nothing in the tube part, just air. I dont know whats up with it, all I know is that I broke it going down some stairs. Damage caused was 2 broken shifters, 1 tacoed wheel, and broken plastic break levers. That taught me to get a good bike, and I wont be doing anymore stupid stunts anymore.

Something is amiss here. This post is making little sense to me. Most of these xmart bikes dont even have any pillow inside, its just a spring with a little grease on sliding tubes giving you a whole 20mm of high quality travel

That doesn't make sense, what brand was it? And the breaking components are just the features of a wal-mart bike.

As far as I know, no x-mart bike bike has air shocks.
As for doing stupid stuns, go ahead and do them. Just use a beefy bike:)

It was a Magna Grand Ledger, I have no clue how it could still compress. When I looked down into the fork when the top cap was off, all you could see was a hollow fork. Please tell me if I am not making any sense.

Jeep with monroe shocks are sometimes air. And no they don't have to be expensive

Ohhhhh now I get it... Hes not talking about a shock, hes talking about the fork. Those forks dont have air chambers... its just an empty space. There are tiny coil springs underneath.

all it is, is when you compress the fork, the space in the fork decreases and pushes air out the sides of the caps. if you were to remove the caps the noise would most likely stop. and no a x-mart bike would never have an air fork on it.
