View Full Version : It was too good to be true! :(
I've had about a month of above average temps here ... the snow all melted away ... it almost looked like spring was on it's way.
But I knew differently. I knew that was too good to be true!!
In the last 24 hours we've had about 5 inches of snow and it is still falling. I've heard rumors that there will be almost a foot of snow by the time all is said and done sometime next week. :( The roads are REALLY horrible and so, sadly, I probably won't be out for a couple weeks.
OK, so what's ANOTHER 6 inches of snow on top of what we just got?? <<sigh>>
Will someone tell me what this whole "spring" thing is?!

Down here in Fl spring is temps in the upper 70's, blue skies with a light sea breeze. :D
Been having snow storms all week in NYC, I thought this week would be good, was almost 60 degrees today. Supposed to be rain and sleet and mid 30's tomorrow. This weather's whacked.
Last month, it was 60 degrees during the day and by the next morning, was like 17 degrees.

It was nice today in Rhode Island. I managed to get in 50 miles this afternoon. It was
58 at my house about 3:00. Still snow on the ground in places.
It looks like I get a whole week off now. I just made it.
Machka: You just live too far North for a cyclist !

You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into the Twilight Zone

I agree. At least maybe we could get 55 degrees (it was 50 here in Boston area) on a weekend when I could get out. Actually, there's still ice on the roads in my neighborhood - underneath the 4-5 inches we had today. Arrrggghhhh!!!

I was starting to feel like spring was here as well. All the signs were there, nice warm (OK mild) days, the sun was still up when I left work, and the geese had even come home from florida, or where ever they take off to. I resisted the urge to remove my snow tires-knowing that as soon as I did, the winter would return to make an ass out of me. But, when my white industries ENO hub came finally came in the mail, I could wait no more. It was stripped-down, summer bike time! 25c slicks, fixed gear, road forks, and no front fender. Life was good-spring really was here.... Then I woke up from the dream. The roads were covered with ice and slop this morning, and I had lots of fun learning how not to kill myself with my fixed gear machine. Oh well. I knew it had to happen. But I'm NOT putting my knobbies back on.
Yeah, I have to agree with the other post y'all are sooo funny. Now knock it off. It is finally warming up here in MN. The cat and I spend my lunch time ont he deck cleaning my bikes, and eating lunch. Mid 40s today, but a threat of rain maybe snow. But after the last forecasting fiasco, where they said the twin cities were going to get nailed with 12 plus inches, and all we got was a few wet inches. To our south got a bunch of snow, but we didn't see it. They hyped it up and it didn't materialize. Makes me wonder what they get paid for.
I guess in closing, just be grateful you got it. Our snowfall for the winter is something like 25.3 inches, that's going to hurt this summer when the farmers are getting out and planting this year's crop. Of course they haven't even begun to hype that. Thiw will be an interesting year.

I think I'm going out tomorrow. You’re not too far from here are you? (R.I.)
Maybe it will be a little colder there? The roads are almost clear here now.
Friday
Partly cloudy. Highs in the upper 40s. West winds 5 to 10 mph.
I thought when I was watching the Twilight Zone in prime time, that video tape was rare or non existent.
I'm not sure, the Alzheimer’s must be progressing.
It was -24C here this morning. That's about -10F for those of you south of the border. Basically it boils down to this: it is WAY, WAY too COLD for the end of March!!

Not me! It was overcast until just before sunset. It was above 40 all the time, on my ride today.
It's still 40 degrees at 9:00 pm.. 160 miles all above 40 degrees this week.
I'll take it !! :D
Sorry,Machka.. :(
It has warmed up here ... it was -12C when I started my century this morning. That's better than -24C!! :D

I guess everything is relative to what you are used to. Any improvement seems good. Now that it's over 40f during the day, I feel like it's a new season. I tell my non cycling friends how nice it is to have good cycling weather, and they just give me this strange look. You know the look, like when you say I rode 100 miles today.
Joe: I tired to read your post, but the second word was .. "skiing".. or something like that? It also said
something about "new powder" so I just gave up trying to understand.
My brain needs to be re booted. It will not process those words until next winter. You need to
include words like, hydration, heat exhaustion, pavement, etc. :D :D
