Mountain Biking - Too good to pass up?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
A LBS, but not the closest one to me, is having a sale and they have their 05' Specialized Rockhopper's marked down to $429. Is that too good of a deal to pass up?

That is a little better than 14% off so for a current model that is a pretty good deal. To good to pass up? Don't know about that but it is a pretty good deal. Now if you could get the Rockhopper Comp Disc for $770 (about the same % discount) that would probably be a deal you shouldn't pass up. :D
I did ride the Hardrock Pro Disc (which I really liked) and they had it on sale for $569 I think....

If that price is right it is a much better deal but on a different level of bike. That is about 19% off retail which for a current model is a smoking deal that you typically only get on last year's closeouts. If it fit you and you like it I say get that one. :)
Actually they normally sell it for $619.99.....so it's only 9%....

Yea but I said off of retail. :D MSRP is $700
What about a Bianchi Grizzly for $ 1400?
Ended up buying the Hardrock Pro Disc for $570......just felt better to me even though it's a tad heavier (maybe 1.5 to 2 lbs.) Has the Avid bb5 disks which may not be the best out there but they felt a heck of a lot better to me than the v-brakes on the rockhopper....now to find some time to ride....

I think it was a good buy. I think most will agree that the Avid Mechanicals are the best mechanicals out there so you aren't giving up mush of anything there and as you said they are clearly better than V brakes.
Plus if it felt better than that alone means you made the right choice as that is what is MOST important anyway.
Enjoy the new ride. :)

Bear in mind that he did say BB5 not BB7 the BB5's are lacking compared to the BB7 version. They're still a ton better than many on the market
