How can i wash and lubricate my components? Now i am using a degreaser for car engines, and then i wash all my bike with soap and water. including chain, crank, front and rear derrailleur. Then i put some drops of automatic transmision oil on the chain and go ride. whats the better way? how many rides do i have to clean it?

You will have to clean it far less frequently if you stay away from the motor oil. Get some orange cleaner and a good dry lube from the internet. Try Pricepoint (http://www.pricepoint.com/) , Bike Nashbar (http://www.nashbar.com/index.cfm) , or something like that. Have a nice ride!

Jeff's advice is good. Also, liquid dish detergent is cheap and effective. And it's a good idea to clean your bike every time you ride, unless you don't get it dirty at all, then do it once a week or so. Otherwise the grit will work its way into various parts and accelerate wear. Here in Maryland, with the mud and everything, I clean my bike thoroughly after every ride. It's good zen, ya know?

Yep, bikes are like dogs .. you get as much love as you put into them. I kiss and thank my bike after a good ride as well, but thought that was a little more information than he needed.
