Hey there,
Well basically to cut a long story short, i've got a maxxis tire that is for front use only and i am going to use it on the back wheel for a while, running it in the reverse direction. Has anyone done this before? It seems to grip acceptably; the guy at the bike shop said that it'd be fine but i wanted a second opinion. Is this dangerous?

You should be fine, but dont expect as much performance from it as a specialty rear tire.

Ah heck man, try it. I do it. Tires that people and mags clamour about, sometimes don't impress me. I don't dwell on intended purpose or front/rear orientation. I just like what works for me.
Hahahaha...my nephew was running a Walmart semi-slick on the front and a IRC Mythos front specific tire on the rear today. Worked for him.

The Mythos front is an excellent back tire for XC.:)

Why not??? Have many front or rear specific tires have you played around with? I know a lot of guy's that run a Minion front on the front and back of their DH rigs I'm running a front specific tire (Nokian) on the rear of my trailbike right now with great results.

Even flipping them over from the originally intended orientation can result in good traction.
