"Toasting" roadie BS is boring...

Ah! Something upon which this recumbent trike rider can agree.
Perhaps I operate at disadvantage in understanding this business. Even as a road runner about 20 years ago, I was always mostly interested in how my times improved. There was only one winner to the races in which I ran, but it was always a joy to me to go out and run a half-marathon or whatever with other folks as crazy as myself. Other runners made running more fun and me a bit faster.
As a cyclist I usually ride alone but still enjoy sharing the road with all other bikers.

Gary

I've been warned that there is no room for humor regarding recumbents. It is all serious stuff and sarcasim of any kind is not allowed in bentland. I will never make a funny comment of any kind again.

No need to subscribe to bike forums anymore.
I for one appreciated your mix of humor with education about the 'bent way of life.
So here I am, saying farewell to the mellowist recumbant rider,
PBJ in hand, waving goodbye as I pass him on my DF riding up a hill

It will not matter what forums I go to, the moderators will lock out my IP if I say anything negative about recumbents.
Guess it is the same old mundane stuff again in bentland like "my recumbent is so much faster than roadies" or "I smoke roadies up hill" or "my recumbent is a crossbow" or "help me stop the recumbent stigma."
I'd like to see some of the benters that talk about "smoking roadies" on a DF up in front at a crit in a USCF race. A race where all competitors have the same regulated bike. My guess is the benters that talk about "smoking roadies" will be the ones getting "smoked".

PBJ trick #105
On a recumbent a benter can place a few PBJs under their shorts. When a benter wipes out they will land on PBJs and avoid road rash. Might work on a DF if 2 layers of PBJs are used.

No need for duck tape.....PBJ is its own adhesive!.....Unlike Spuds, I"m looking for Quick energy!....
Besides, when I get home, my wife just loves PBJ.....I like to share.....

Yeah thats right. The Crossbow clan, the Tacx dudes and bent Stigmeisters will all have a fit if I ruin the sanctity of the bent brotherhood will foolish talk of PBJs in cycling shorts.
I hear the FCC is ready to file charges if I say anything about smiling and walking up a hil....
Time for me to get a recumbent wireless web site with a server at XM Satellite Radio. No one will stop my PBJ talk if I post from the XM Satellite web.

The only victims in bentland are those that ride a heavy bent up hills or mountains. I know you are not a victim and are a member of the Aero fan club. You gave up on that low racer mystique for the dual big wheeler. AZ has some difficult climbs and can easily turn any benter into a victim if they gear up too high or push against the seat when climbing.

explain "crossbow clan" and "stigmeisters" (as in 'stigma'..?)
do you really think they'll bust you for evangelizing PBJ and its numerous benefits? I can't imagine that happening.
"Spuds, sorry we've gotta cut you off. Your constant references to PBJ has created serious turmoil on the forums."
Perhaps the person who "warned" you (or whatever happened), was exagerating or being dramatic.
Also, please tell me you either prefer 'REAL' brand peanut-butter, or the new Smucker's all natural. I hate sugary PB like skippy and jif -gross. I grew up on REAL brand, and eat Smucker's natural.

Some "I smoke roadie" bent dreamers believe their bent is like a magical crossbow that destroys their enemies (roadies). Those folks are the "crossbow clan".
The "stigmeisters" are benters the believe there is some kind of "bent stigma" going on. They think that roadies consider bent riders weak PBJ eating LAZYboy riders. In reality there is NO stigma. Some benters ride heavy slow design recumbents and they tend to get dropped on hills by roadies that train a lot and also have the advantage of core strength, muscles, power, high HR and light equipment. That is why some roadies get up the hill quicker than some benters.
My guess is the person that warned me checked my ISP and discovered there is only one Spuds and no alter egos or ruining of this forum. I lost my funny bone with the banning threat. So now I am a serious poster telling the truth and nothing but the truth.
I like all PBJs. Chunky, smooth or real. Has a lot of protein and fat. Some excess fat is OK when riding laid back style. It gives me the aero belly I need for bent racing. If I was concerned about weight I'd use whey protein and HammerGel for rides instead of PBJs. PBJs are much cheaper at Family Dollar than any of the E-Capps stuff. Beter to save a buck when riding recumbents.

Sawtooth,
I moved to recumbency mainly because of comfort, with speed being the secondary consideration. I still love to go fast, but at age 47, it is very difficult, even for an aging athlete, to keep up.
Quite simply, recumbents, especially low riders, are faster on the flats, mainly because of the more efficient aerodynamic effect. Lightweight roadbikes will be more efficient up the hills, because of the leverage of getting up in the saddle and....pumping. My guess is that a df roadie will beat a lightweight low riding recumbent because of the hill (mountain?) advantage, in a tour de france face off. But recumbents own just about every flat race world record. The engine is important too, and Lance Armstrong is, at least over the past 6 years, impossible to beat. In my less than humble opinion, he would be a world record holding recumbent rider, if he chose to be!
Visibility? I guess it depends on the type recumbent you're on! Lowriders or trikes might have a problem. But most recumbents stand out, mainly because of the uniqueness factor. People just notice things that are out of the ordinary.
Do I miss the traditional (df) riding style. Yes, in some ways. Sometimes, I just do not want to stand out. Also, if I'm going up slopes or hills, I know that a lightweight df can provide an advantage.
My compromise between recumbency and upright bicycles has been the RANS Fusion series of bikes, more specifically, Zenetik, a 23 lb. super comfortable, very fast bike that blends the best characteristics of a recumbent bike and and an upright road bike. It's worth checking out at rans.com. I love mine and can highly recommend it. Email me for more info. if you would like.

Same here. But having made the switch, I make sure I enjoy the heck out of every aerodynamic advantage I can get. After all, it's no different than DF riders getting fancy bladed-spoke wheelsets and aerobars, I just happen to realize a bigger return on my speed budget! At 50, it's the only way I'm going to put the hurts to the 20-something crowd.

No arguments, but that's LOWRACERS, not LOWRIDERS. Below is a lowrider. Interestingly, this particular one is billed a 'beach limo cruiser,' and the geometry looks remarkably like the RANS. I don't think the RANS Fusion series is anything like a recumbent. It's a cruiser-style lowrider, just like the one in the pic.

Yes sir and no sir,
I apologize for the reference of lowrider, it certainly should be lowracer, a fantastically fast bike over the flats.
However, I will differ with your opinion about the Rans Zenetik. First of all, there are four models of the Fusion series of bikes: Fusion, an all around bike, at 27 lbs., for touring or any other use; Cruiser, which is basically for what you mentioned, cruising, but at a more performance rate that your average "cruiser" ; Dynamik, a fairly fast bike meant for all around use, including light trail riding, and; Zenetik, a lightweight bike with high end components, but much more comfortable than any road bike of which I'm aware. It is not meant to be a world class road bike, but yet be very fast and extremely comfortable, factors that I cherish in bikes.
Thanks,
Cricket
