I have noticed that my brakes are becoming much louder and squeek. I first cleaned them with water and it did not go away. The, I cleaned the rims with degreaser and the noise is less noticable but still there. Any advice?
Thanks!

I think it might be the way the pads hit the rim, try to mess around with them. My brakes produce the loudest noises you will ever hear, and I kind of like it.:D

1. make sure the rims arent touching the tire when you are breaking. make sure the completely touch the rim.
2. clean any break dust (black stuff) off the rim. use steel wool to do this. then whipe with a cloth.
3. make sure there is no oil on the rim
Make sure the front of the pad touches the rim before the back. This is called "toe-in" and may be the only sure way of quieting the brakes.

Thanks a lot for all of your replies.
I did two things that you mentioned. First I cleaned the rims again, but this time I used a brush. And second, I adjusted the break pads by just messing around with them until they hit only the rim.
The squeeking is almost entirely gone. Thanks for the help.
