I was walking down the street the other day when I saw a rather nice Specialized MTB lock with the strangest lock I've ever seen. It was square with hinges on the corners, so it collapsed. It seemed to be made out of cheap metal, with a cylinder lock, of course.

As I was looking at it the nervous owner came up to his bike and said; "Nice bike, isin't it?" When I asked him about the lock he said it was the "newest thing". When I told him about picking the cyclinder he looked rather nervous. What is this strange lock?

A friend of mine who worked at a shop had one of those ~3 years ago I haven't seen another one ever. They are much better than a cable and lighter than a kyrpto. you could probaly pry on pretty easily though.

A quick google didn't pull anything up, but im sure they are out there.

Is it something like this (check out the attachment)? The Bike Club is the only square lock I know of...

No, I thought it might have been, but it had hinges on the corners. And it was flat.

No, it's the strangest lock I have ever seen! Draw a square, put circles three of the corners representing hinges, and a cyclider lock at the fourth. If you pull it at opposite corners it will collapse.

I don't like it. It seems like the joints would be particularly susceptible to attack. In fact, I'm thinking fold it over so I can fit a crowbar in there, crank, and POP!

A friend's got one, and it pretty much sucks. Nobody's stolen his bike, though.

Yeah, it looks strong at first sight, but then, BAM! Your bike's gone...
