Bicycle Mechanics - Giant threadless stem - FSA compressor ?

Hi all...I am trying to assemble a threadless stem (Performance Forte) onto an '05 OCR Composite frameset. It comes with an integrated headset (FSA Orbit ACB). My problem is that at the top of the fork, there is an aluminum plug that is threaded. Into the the plug goes a threaded sleeve, then an allen bolt that secures a carbon cap.
My question is how do I adjust this sleeve so that the cap fit flush with the top of the stem. The closest thing I have found to the whole plug/threaded sleeve/allen bolt assembly is an FSA Carbon Compressor which is listed on their website. There doesn't seem to be any instructions anywhere on how this whole thing goes together.

If I am understanding you correctly, you have to use the proper spacers above the steerer to create the right amount of recess above your stem for the top cap to draw the stem tight into the steerer when you tighten the top allen screw. The top cap thickness has to marginally exceed the amount the fork is recessed below the top of the stem. This is accomplished with proper spacing using spacers. Then tighten the stem to the fork after you have the head set bearing pre-load adjusted by snugging the top allen bolt. Posting a pic or two is very helpful for solid feedback.

Thanks for your quick reply here are some pictures. The first is the full assembly with the bolt tighten down. The next is without the cap. Then there is a picture from the top with the cap off. Finally there are two pictures of the cap/compressor assembly.

Thanks again.Why don't you take that whole mess to a LBS.The part in the steerer is sitting too high.You also need a spacer under the stem,because the steerer is above the level of the top of the stem.

two options really...either space the stem up to make the top cap flush with the top of the stem...issue there is you are clamping to the separate thimble you show...which looks like an inch or two of spacers are needed...or you need to reduce the deck height of the top female holed bulk head shown almost flush with the top of the stem in picture no. 3 /top RHS. Remove the stem and snap another picture of what the stem is currently clamped to. Without the threaded thimble next to the allen screw in picture five, your stem is more or less flush to the top of the fork as you want. You may be able to thread the thimble in "from underneath" so you can thead the allen screw in from up top into the female threaded hole in the center of the thimble and draw the cap down to the top of the stem.
Need a couple more pics of the pieces...remove the stem and if possible remove the fork from the steerer and snap a pic of that.

GeorgeActually I know exactly how it works. It's the smart guy who realizes he's in over his head and takes the mess to LBS before buggering expensive stuff or following lame advice and hurting himself.I mentioned the 2 major issues,and beyond that I don't intend to write the book.

I am not sure, but - it looks like you just need some spacers???

I don't see any pictures posted. I'm building a TCR with an integrated FSA headset. Just wondering if it's my computer or where the pictures are. Thx
