Bicycle Mechanics - Any good 700c rims?

So after reading some comments on the unreliability of the Mavic A319 rims on my new giant ocr touring, I'm looking for possible replacements in the future. Does anyone have any recommendations for good sturdy 32-36 hole rims for 700x32 tires?

Velocity Dyads are strong enough for tandems.

As is the Salsa Delgado. But I have great luck with nearly everything I build up, one of my wheels has ~9,200 miles on it at last count. I built a commuting wheel with a generic, unbranded hybrid/tandem rim from Nashbar (better than Weinmann ZAC19, I admit) and an ALIVIO! hub in Oct. 1995 and rode it until mid 2002, about 6000 miles. Since then my friend Bob commuted 3200 miles on it. Only 32! spoke wheelsmith straight 14 gauge. Brake track wear is about to retire it, still true and smooth. So much for the horror stories on r.b.t Admittedly, this is a front wheel. If loaded, I'd recommend at least 36 spokes front and rear, rider weight is a load too.

BTW my buddy pulls a trailer full of hockey gear to practices and games, absolutely hilarious. In NYC.

Well this is just for bombing around and into potholes and etc 25 miles a day. I'm 140 or so, bike's around 30, with my bag and all, total weight is around 190 lbs. 700x35 @ 85psi.
I'm wondering if I can even get by with mavic open pro's with 700x32's.

go for some of the velocity stuff. Aeroheads are super strong. One of the guys @ my LBS probably weighs 190 by himself, hes had these rims on a cyclocross bike for 3 years and they are as true as the day be built them. And heck, velocity stuff isnt that expensive

The best rims I have used recently (they're about 2.5 years old) are the Mavic CXP33 model. I would recommend them very highly. The wheelset was 3x laced, 32 spokes, with double butted stainless spokes (DT swiss) and has proved very reliable - very little truing required once they had settled in. I also have some Velocity Aerohead rims that have fewer miles, but promise the same level of reliability.

Another set of Mavic CXP21 have also been good performers, although they were less well built, and had spoke breakage issues (8 so far) from new. I suspect a combination of "no-name" stainless spokes and machine building. However the rims have not given any problems.

For the record, I'm around 88 kg (about 193 lbs) and commute about 20 miles/day on these wheels (spread between bikes), so they see a lot of use.

Salsa Delgado Cross. Love them. Speedgoat will hand build you a set (105 hubs, 32 spoke, 3X, DT Swiss 14/15/14, brass nipples) for $250 and they ship for free.

Despite all the recommendations for Velocity rims, my favorite wheelbuilder says he finds the Velocitys somewhat soft. He recommends Alex rims. You can buy whole HEAVY-DUTY wheels cheaply here:

I bought a set for $100 **after** shipping and **with** tires! Of course, I'll need to switch to wider tires, but the set was still a bargain! Also, these aren't as "tight" as my wheelbuilder would make, but they're sure a lot cheaper.

Go to www.speedgoat.com and click on Genuine George's hand built wheels link in the right hand column. They let you select the hub you want from a very large selection and the rim and the spokes etc and you can see what it does to the price. Pretty nice site.

Edit: Deore M525 disc hubs with Delgado X rims and DT 14/15/14, 32 spoke 3X would be $231.

What's wrong with the A319s?

Apologies if I didn't read your original post properly - the Mavic rim models I mentioned in my post only seem to be for tyre sizes from 20 to 28mm. They have a "Speedcity" range that take larger tires, and also cross country ranges. Might be worth checking these out.
