One of the guys in my riding group has an older Cannondale with a 105 8 speed group. He would like to update it a little and gain a lower gear for some of the steeper climbs around here. He was thinking of going to a triple until we talked about compact doubles. My question is:

If he puts a compact crank like FSAs Energy on the front he will need a longer cage rear derailer. Will a new 105 work with his 8 speed STI shifters. Do you see any other problems with this setup.

Thanks...

Thanks...A new 105 will work, but not required. Not likely to need a long cage.
