I ride a single speed road bike and want to go clipless. Wondering where to start.

I have toe clips on my bike right now. I have pretty good balance and I'm able to track stand through most lights. I am wondering what brand of clipless pedals is of high quality and is reasonably priced. thanks.

I've been riding clipless for a couple of years and wouldn't go back. A couple of things you might want to consider though are a double sided pedal (some can only be clipped in on one side of the pedal), as they are a lot easier to get clipped into. Another thing, notwithstanding my statement about not going back to regular pedals, is if you ever use your bike for casual rides with normal shoes consider a pedal with a bit of a cage such as the Shimano M-434/M-545. As previously noted you WILL fall at least once or twice, usually a slow or stopped, slow motion fallover!

I started cycling about 4 months ago. Got clipless about a month into it. I suggest buying a pair of shows (pricepoint.com) and finding a friend that may have some extra pedals that you can borrow. I personally look for pedals that have a large surface area, and carry a float. Float allows your foot to move laterally and can prevent sore knees. I ended up purchasing a pair of Look 296's. I like them since they have an adjustable float that you can mess around with. I say go all out on pedals. They're one of the most personal things on your bike, along with your saddle. Lance Armstrong has had the same pedals for over 10 years. You'll keep them forever.
