General Cycling Discussion - what shoes are you wearing

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I wear my RM Williams work boots to work and then a pair of Nike runners on the way home. Neither have let me down. The RM Williams boots are now approaching 35 years old and don't show any signs of wear. I guess I'm stuck with them for the rest of my life. They did cost Aust$90.00 so at least I'm getting my money's worth. :D

Vans Camachos with clips and straps, usually.
Vans sk8-his with clips and straps, sometimes.
Red Wings EMT boots with platforms, occasionally.
(platform pedals, that is. I've come to terms with my height.)

Shimno SPD sandals. Great in summer and with heavy socks you can even wear them in fairly cold weather.

These are the European models (colour differences). I picked them up during a business trip to Bologna, Italy several years ago. The dollar was strong back then and with the exchange rate, they worked out to around $120 a pair... so I just had to get both the MTB and RB versions. :)
I went to a bikeshop near my hotel but they didn't have my size in stock. The owner asked me when I was leaving and I told him I was off to London the following day. He asked me where I was staying and I pointed across the street. He picked up the phone, dialed a number and spoke some Italian. Then he told me to expect a call later in the day. Several hours later, after I had returned from the conference I was attending, I was informed by the front desk of the hotel that there was a message waiting for me from the bikeshop across the street. I went over to the shop and the owner pulled out a plastic bag with two boxes of Sidi shoes. He explained to me that the Sidi factory was not very far so they simply sent one of their employees over who carted the shoes to the store in his little Alfa Romeo. The shoes fit beautifully and I purchased them. They still remain the most comfortable footwear I own.

Roadie is Sidi Genius 4
MTB and Commuter are Specialized MTB Comp shoes from several years ago...they aren't all that great but the new ones seem very nice and I am looking to replace the old ones.
Lake mx100...a little chilly today, but all round a good shoe.
I wear shoes like these, but not this particular model:

They're great, as the sole is stiff and thin, and made of natural rubber.

Yeah, but you wear sandals to play golf, so it's not surprising. :)

Reek?....

:roflmao:
I have partially paralyzed hands....so Pearl Izumi MTBs with the little lace-winding wheel on the side...Perfect!....like it was designed with me in mind..... :)
Being Dutch, I should wear these:
... but as a roadie, I wear these (Sidi Energy):
... and if the weather is not cooperating, I pick up these old-style booties (Adidas Campiolo):

PI Vagabonds on MTB, had them for little over 2 years, still don't like them, not quite wide enough, but I am cheap. On the other hand, for my new roadie I did it right and have a pair of Sidi Genius 5 Mega (wide version). Still getting used to them, but miles beyond my PIs

I'll bet your bike has bullhorns....
Sidi Genius for "serious" riding. PI Vagabond mtb shoes for commuting. The Vagabonds are cheap, comfortable, and allow me to walk up the stairs without risking my neck.

Another vote for PI Vagabonds for MTB and I just got Adidas Adistar road shoes. Comfortable so far but a little narrow. Nice and stiff for the road, but I hope I never have to walk far in them.

For bike I wear Sidi Dragon SRS's. Used for both road and mountain bike.
For everyday wear I wear some old workboots I found in the garage. Steel toe and everything, have saved my toes a couple times.

I just bought a leftover pair of Sidi Rampa 2 MTB shoes for $40 on closeout. These are my first venture into cycling shoes. All I have to do is get my clipelss pedals installed and I am in business. I rode them in my toe clips and straps last night and I loved the stiffness of them...felt better even on those crappy pedals.
Now I gotta get my shorts, jerseys, oakleys and socks so I can be a REAL poseur :D .
