I'm trying to get my el cheapo mountain bike apart for a good cleaning, and I'm finding that my drive-side crank bolt is unmoveable. Any tips for getting these things out? It's a square taper BB; the left side came out just fine.

Thanks -

Take it to LBS and get them to loosen it. Pay the few bob if they charge and then you are fine. Grease it when putting it back on and it should be ok.
I had the same issue with rear cassette and one of hte pedals. They have the vice for the cassette and they have a big long pedal spanner.
My limited experience is that it is not worth driving yourself mad trying to do these things totally at home.

1. Put your chain onto the big chainring. That's very very important. If you've already taken the chain off of the bike, put your first aid kit somewhere where it'll be handy when you bang your hand on the chainring.

2. The crankarm bolts turn counterclockwise to loosen on both sides so be sure you are trying to them the correct way.

3. Do whatever you have to do to get it to turn. I've found it helpful to align my wrench with the crankarm so that I can squeeze the two together.
