Anyone here ride in the critical mass rides? I've been before in DC, but never out here in the midwest. Is there anyone on the BB that rides this? The next ride is supposed to be this Friday, and I'm considering getting out for it. In light of some of the conversation in other threads about what the community response to the mistreatment of cyclists by roadraging drivers might be, it seems to be that opening a thread on this topic might be an interesting opportunity for people to share their opinions.

Personally, I think Critical Mass is an important protest and community building gesture. The rides I was on in DC were great for the most part, and for a while I was really inspired by them. I'd like to get back into the cycling advocacy that they represent. Plus, when you're working and doing grad school full time, this is a great way to connect to a community of like-minded riders, from whom you're otherwise isolated.

I've been on it a couple times and had a blast.

There is no harassment like in NYCM. Once in awhile a squad car might follow the mass around for awhile but nothing major.

Its alot of fun, I suggest it to everybody I know.
