in october of 04 13 people riding on a critical mass ride were arrested on charges of disorderly conduct. we finally got our day in court today and the judge took half an hour to throw out the charges. we win. i just wanted to share that with everyone.

WooHoo!
The same thing happened to me about a year and a half ago. the only difference was, I was singled out of the whole pack to get charged. And I was just standing there with everybody else. >:(

Congrats, but your victory would have been much tougher outside of a liberal college town. (My cousin lives in Corvallis and teaches elementary school biology there. It's a delightful city that I really enjoyed visiting a few years ago.)

WHAT??? Liberal? The entire college is run by the greek system. I went to school there, and can tell you it's almost a crime to wave a peace sign there. Knowing the attitude of the police department and the whole legal system in Corvallis, I'm actually really impressed that bottom-bracket and friends have been able to get themselves off. Maybe it's gotten a little better since then, but I don't think it will ever be a "liberal college town".

Way to go! Any tips on fighting the system? The spat of cleveland cititations didn't go very well, as far as I recall.

Congratulations on your win, but it wasn't really a win since you had to go to court anyway.

It's the same crap they're pulling in NY. Two judges say it can go on, the police arrest you anyway, process you, and release you. It's all harassment.

the arresting officers looked like assheads in front of the judge. and we can use this case in the future. oh and liberal is only true if you are talking about the amount of glass in the bike lanes.

Is the judge's ruling available on the WWW?

What were the exact charges and why did the judge say he dismissed them?

the exact charges were disorderly conduct defined as knowingly causing alarm. i don't know if there is anything on the net. there wasn't any media there.

Congrats! 13 of us go up in front of a judge in may for parading w/o a permit and Dis Con. We were pinched at the Feb. CM. Apparently the case could be thrown out any day now because it's so weak. Go ride somewhere en masse to celebrate.
