Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Currently I go to Plymouth State University and they offer a cyclocross team. Because my expenses are low, like most college students I would assume I don't have the money to upgrade my bike to fit the standards to that of the cyclocross team. The school is rather flexable and allows students, who have enough student interest and a proposal to form their own clubs within the school itself. I was thinking about starting a stricly road cycling team, but don't know if my proposal would pass due to the current cyclocross team and them just telling me to get a mountain bike. I'd like to get out and get some races in with other students, but currently some have told me my proposal would not pass. Does anyone else have this kind of problem or face that they don't have a biking team to fit their standards?
Ah yes, forgot to mention I have a road bike, of course it would not fair well on a cyclocross course involving off road terrain.
I think you should give it a shot. They are different bikes, and different styles of riding.
Go for it, dude. Its worth a shot.
just make your own team anyway. race someone else. you ain't gotta put up with no stuck up (etc ) richie (etc) shool.

The William and Mary cycling team does mountain biking in the fall and road racing in the spring, but trains on road bikes year round. (they have information on their training on their website.) I would be surprised if the existing cyclocross riders did not train at all on road bikes. It seems like it would be better to have one cycling team rather than multiple teams anyway---much of the training is the same. Have you talked with members of the cyclocross team about making it a more general team? Not everyone has to compete in the same events.
