Bicycle Mechanics - 10T vs 11T derailleur pulley wheels

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I cracked the guide pulley on my XTR derailleur and had to rob an old XT G-pulley off an 8spd Trek. The XTR uses an 11 tooth and the XT, a 10 tooth. Are they compatable? The XT uses a ceramic bushing while the XTR appears to be a sealed bearing. It seems to work well enough around the yard but I have not had it on the trails yet. Why did Shimano change to 11 teeth? Thanks.
