I'd say jump in, who needs that phd anyway. ;) What are you studying?

peace,
sam
Thanks for the details Sam. I'm impressed and look forward to more of this stuff in the new forum. I am studying semiconductor physics. Often I wonder if I would rather be an engineer or mechanic or something. Perhaps I will get a job at SRAM or Shimano or something like that... I could make nanoscale cogs for tiny bikes.

Physics, eh? Thats what my formal education was in (at least, most of a degree in physics, technically it still isn't done, but I do my education like all my hobbies, one step at a time). I do so love it, though... I've toyed with the idea of being an engineer, but I just like playing around with things, not getting real work done. ;) Besides, my girlfriend is biomedical engineer, and you can't have too many people like that in one house.

I challenge you to invent 1 um pitch bike chain, and uber-compact drivetrains. Maybe make them out of carbon nanotubes. Who needs carbon fiber when you can have carbon nanotubes?

peace,
sam

So answer the question would you ride very far on them?....

in regards to the topic, that's just a stupid question. It's like saying, "gee, that Harley Davidson isn't capable of doing 180mph -- so why bother?".

if you have to ask how far you'd ride on a chopped bike, then you just don't get it or your question is pointless.
