View Full Version : an interesting observation when ordering my livestrong bracelets.

I just ordered 10 livestrong bracelets from Lance's official web site. One thing i found a little disturbing was the shipping! Of course 10 bracelets equals $10.00 donation. It cost me $5.00 to have them shipped!!!! I am not talking about rush delivery here... I am talking about normal USPS delivery! I think the USPS needs to step up, and donate the money they earn shipping the bracelets (or at least some of it) to the foundation. To charge a 50% shipping fee.... that just sucks! Is it possible that some of this money does go to the foundation, and I as a contributor just don't know it?

Yes, I also found the shipping a bit painful, but of course it is shipping/handling, and they have to pay someone to pack them, buy the shipping materials, pay for the actual shipping, etc. Bottom line, however, a great cause!
When I order something off the website other than bracelets, they always include a few for free... so I don't have to worry about paying for shipping at all. ;) I find it a better strategy.

I work in a shipping department and $5.00 for shipping and handling is very fair. They are at best breaking even with a charge like that.
My local Trek store had 'em on the counter... no shipping.

I saw a shop in a flea market the had bootleged livestrong bracelets for 50 cents each. They looked exactly like the originals.

My solution is to not order or wear them at all. Then I don't have to deal with the sneaking suspicion that their style status nosedive is imminent, and I don't pay any shipping at all.

The Chinese manufacturers of the bracelets are pushing them through illicit means. I know a guy that was approached with an offer to ship a container full for a few cents each bracelet. Luckily, he has some ethics.

they sell colored bands that LOOK like the livestrong and breast cancer ones but don't have any text on them (but who can read the text from across the room?) for 50 cents in the gum ball type machines in safeway type stores.

maybe supporting cancer with plastic wrapped plastic will if people realize all the carcinogens required in making and shipping shiploads of these things across an ocean.

Yeah, you're right. I'll mention that to all of the pink ribbon wearers next time I see one . . . which I haven't since about 1999 . . . I'm not down on cancer survivor support, but I guarantee the Livestrong Fad will go out of style faster than it came in.
The thing that kills me is the fact that when I rode down to the St. Pete pier recently I saw a woman with one on smoking a cigarette.
This wasn't a "challenge" band either this was a LiveStrong band. I chuckled at the irony and went on my way.

these bands have become 'cool' to be seen with. it's a fashion statement now. which is why I laughed when I saw the colored bands in the 25 cent toy vending machine thing.

Just wonder Koffee..What other products do you purchase from Livestrong...it's proceeds still goes to cancer survivor support.One idea I have for their product development...Reflectizered yellow Livestrong braclets that we could wear for riding in low light conditions..They could make more profits off of such a thing...A slightly more expensive product.
